The transfer landscape is the same as it is for regular students. Students transfer all the time, for a variety of reasons. If a better opportunity is available, why should student-athletes not be able to explore that option?

We (fans in general) don’t like it because for so long, as you just did, we have looked at college sports through the scope of professional sports. It’s not the same. It’s very likely that it impacts the sport moving forward, but there is no reason student-athletes shouldn’t have the same ability to transfer that other students have.

I agree there's no reason they *shouldn't* have that flexibility, but I think it will have real effects on the roles of recruiting and development within college sports. College coaches have traditionally had to act as both recruiters and developers. Less transfer restrictions seem to tilt that towards recruitment. Why develop players if you can just go get someone better from the portal? Conversely, why invest in their development if any other team can take them every off-season?

Probably my favorite aspect of the John Beilein years at Michigan was the player development. Watching guys like Caris and Stauskas and the Wagner bros and Duncan develop from immaturity to pros were really great meta narratives alongside the actual games. I am afraid that THAT is what will be lost, and it's too bad because that development aspect is something pro sports really can't match.

Say what you want about Payton Thorne, but the man does his homework. Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium, Auburn's chief rival's home field, utilizes a cutting-edge concept known as "separate tunnels." Thorne knows firsthand how dangerous shared tunnels can be.

Smart man. Shared tunnels are to be blamed for all kinds of shenanigans.

2:55 mark for Auburn's entrance:

So I was right, Thorne is a good player and it wasn't all just Walker. Dantonio knew QBs, and Sparty is gonna now miss dantonios QBs unless he's still picking them. Auburn shouldn't have any trouble getting a top QB and yet they want him.  Wonder if Coleman follows him. Sparty better pray that this Kim is good.

Better program, bigger games, better weather, good for Payton, wish him success as a Tiger.

That 3 game stretch of at TAM, Georgia, at LSU over 4 weeks in late Sept into October should be super fun for him.

This makes sense, now Sparty can focus on the Noah Kim for Heisman campaign.  If things get off to a slow start in that department, then maybe they can bring in Tom Izzo as a special assistant, we all know how good he is with young talent.
