Forgive me if this is an ignorant question.  I definitely understand that UC is a serious condition, but what is it about football that exacerbates the risk that it could be career threatening?

what is it about the nature of the sport make Ambry more vulnerable?

I dealt with some pretty bad divertculitis for about 10 years that eventually perforated and I had to have two pieces of my colon removed.

Granted, UC is definitely a far cry from what I had, but I can tell you that you don't appreciate your health until you've experienced an unhealthy gut. EVERYTHING suffers when your bowel is f***ed up. If he's got a really bad ulcer I guess there's a possibility of a perforation from additional stress or pressure, but other than that, there may or may not be a a significant risk of added injury; I don't know. Just the fact that I doubt he can effectively play at a D1 level with an actively inflamed colon.

Great to hear he's doing well.  Glad he's back in the fold.  You obviously never hope for injuries to anyone, but it did get our 2nd and 3rd string guys in with the 1's (my best attempt at making lemonade).  They've gotten valuable experience they can use moving forward.  Hopefully Ambry is back up to full speed in a month or so, and our DBs will be a deeper, more game ready unit.
