Alabama Coming After Chris Partridge, But Sam Thinks He'll Stay; Other Coaching Notes

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Sam Webb was back on WTKA this morning after being gone covering recruiting. He had a lot of insights on the coaching situation:

• Alabama is coming after Chris Partridge, but Sam thinks Harbaugh will give him more money and he'll stay here. Sam also said CP is likely to be the safeties coach.

• Sam's heard nothing to indicate Drevno and Pep are leaving.

• Dan Enos' role has not yet been defined. If he's not the OC, he'll still likely have a role in play-calling. He turned down a chance to be the Rutgers OC to come to Michigan. (Duh)

• Al Washington is going to coach on defense; don't know where the rumor started that he'd be coaching running backs.

I was listening in the car, so I hope I got all that right.

that money at Michigan doesn't matter because we're sitting on a huge pile of it,  the opportunity cost of this situation still should be a cause for concern.

There are alot of top-tier OC or OL coaches in the nation that would walk to Michigan for 1.1 Million.  There's no reason why we should be settling for someone with less than an ideal track record eating up a coaching spot and not pulling his weight.

Your post makes just as much sense without mentioning the money, which is my whole point.  Let's try it:

"The opportunity cost of this situation should be a cause for concern."  True

"There are alot of top-tier OC or OL coaches in the nation that would walk to Michigan."  True

"There's no reason why we should be settling for someone with less than an ideal track record eating up a coaching spot and not pulling his weight."  True

"Drevno and Hamilton make $1.1 Million each."   Who Cares. Change that salary to anything you want and the 3 preceding sentences still stand as valid.

If you fire them you still pay them that amount, then you have to get someone better for that role and pay them.  Pep & Drev didn't get to where they are because they can't coach.  Something wasn't working.  If you think you can fix it, you do it.  He knows these guys.  Hope he finds the best fit for them.

Don Brown is an island, he runs the show.

The OC is part of a team with Harbaugh, Drevno and Pep right now and Enis coming in.  Roles are more mixed.  Harbaugh is looking for the final mix for this year.

I'd like to see Drevno focus more on the O-line.  That doesn't mean he wouldn't be OC.  I doubt they'll demote him, and it's not necessary

When I'd watch the Colts O, they seemed constipated...like they were being held back..... and wasn't a fan of the Pep hire, at all.

The guy Id love to see as OL coach or OC, is  LES MILES.   He is a bad ass, and has the personality needed to coach here.  Its that type of prick we need on our side.

How can Michigan possibly add more cooks in the kitchen when there’s already too many? Especially ones that were ineffective this year. Doesn’t add up to me. Someone’s gotta go.

I just want one OC to run the show and have JH get the final say. We don't need passing, running and other coordinators to continue to muddy up the waters.

If it wasn't for those 1-2 times where the camera caught Jim mouthing "great call, Pep", I could easily be convinced that Pep did literally nothing all season.

Why let this be frustrating?

Harbaugh is doing what he thinks is best for the program. From there it comes down to whether you believe he knows what he's doing or not. And regardless of what side of that fence you come down on -- you still will have to wait to get the full picture.

So..frustrating? Not even close.

Its not like he's had atrocious offense for 3 years at UM. And its not like this man hasnt accomplished enough to be granted the benefit of the doubt when it comes to building a staff and team.

Sit back and let the man do his work. We will all know the pieces soon and even that will not tell us all that much...we will just have to wait until game time next September at ND to see where this team stands -- ok, now THAT's frustrating :)

I think the frustrating part could be the "time" we, as fans must wait to hear of any more staff changes.

FWIW,  I think most would agree that no one wants to win more than Jim Harbaugh.  Fortunately, he has a great network of coaching resources and a history of turning things around.

What if Harbaugh starts calling plays on O? I've always found it weird that the HC wouldn't want to call plays on whatever side of the ball he's familiar with.

That would remove the "too many cooks" problem, and maybe he likes what Drevno does on the OL, what Pep designs for the passing game, etc.

knew when Roman turned Harbaugh down that Drevno was staying but he really needs to replace Pep with a legit wide receivers coach, those kids need to be coached up.

What the opinion of the board is concerning coaches.

That is Harbaugh's job. Let him do his job.

You folks, do your job.

Go Blue.

I disagree with a lot of the opinion on coaches and I'll support whoever Harbaugh picks, but seriously, "That is Harbaugh's job.  Let him do his job.  You folks, do your job."

Isn't that saying don't post on message boards, which you are posting on a message board, one that you regularly post on?

What is OK to discuss?

If Alabama gets Patridge our recruiting will suffer bad. Will be hard for us to beat them in any recruiting battles.
