AFC & NFC Championship Thread

Ladies and germs we have 2 very good games on deck today! Will Mahomes be good on that ankle? Can Purdue get to the Super Bowl as a rook? Will Hurts be able to impose his will vs a formidable 9ers D? Will Burrow feel at home @ “Burrowhead”?

I got Cincy vs 9ers in the SB…what say you?

that didn't look like a penalty

the rule has to take into account they're running at full speed, and the defender is trying to stop yardage.

Poor guy. He's taking the blame

rule needs to be adjusted

He's complained in at least 3 posts of the same thing.  I'm surprised he hasn't yet gone as far as making a new OP featuring his Twitter alter ego "Pond Time" and numerous other tweets to defend the Bengals #58 on that out of bounds hit.

I contend that on an NFL sidelines play such as that one, the flag is gonna be thrown 9 times out of 10, and 99% of the time when it's a QB running the ball.

The only real exception is the widely-known 'Lions Rule", which explicitly states that all flags remain in the refs pockets whenever such infractions occur against anyone wearing a Detroit uniform. And if in a game vs the Packers, the Lions are to be flagged.

oooof.  Last play was a terrible but deserved penalty.  Rest of the game was a ref show, heavily favoring the Chiefs.

Final play brought back Crable flashbacks.

Rest of the game brought back 2016 screw job in the shoe flashbacks.

Not a fan of any of the final 4 teams, but hoping the Eagles win now....Chiefs didn't earn that one.

Still trying to figure out who I'm gonna root for (and I'll be at the game) but you could theoretically argue Philly didn't "earn" the right to be there. Sure, they won easily, but there's not a team in the NFL that the 49ers could have beat without having a QB.

Granted, the Eagles played well and deserved to win, but they essentially had a bye today.

As a Lions fan who bought tickets in July, I expected as much.

Just kinda sucks there's no feel good or underdog story. Both of these teams have won recently. I also don't really hate either of them per se, so I can't really root against one of them either.

I'm flying to Vancouver the day after the Super Bowl to see the Red Wings....that's almost just as exciting.

I genuinely don't want to dislike Mahomes, because he's fairly likable & obviously insanely/unbelievably talented, but the amount of media-slurp he gets is grating at best & makes me feel like I shouldn't actually like him haha

I always hang my hat on telling everyone who would listen that in 2014 and I saw this 3rd string freshman QB at Texas Tech nearly beat #4 Baylor on the road that: “this dude is as legit as anyone I have seen in years.”

He is a special talent, may actually be the most talented to play the position. All reports show he’s actually a real good dude. His wife is cringy on Twitter and his brother is a douche but I don’t hold that against him. I like Andy Reid too.

All that said, I agree. The media slurp on him and this team is tiring. Unfortunately I hate the Eagles, so I’m going to be “Spider-Man pointing meme-ing” all Super Bowl Sunday

TBF, Mahomes should've been sacked on that last play, but the refs completely missed a blatant hold. At worst, there should've been offsetting penalties on that play.

The call for a late hit on Mahomes seemed fair and accurate.

The officials could / should have called more on KC.   The punt return itself had a block in the ack / hold / tackle - which set up the return - and wasn’t called.

As others have pointed out - are these the best officials in the NFL?

I got to re-watch the game today, and Romo has really become just an awful announcer. He was ok in the first year when he was restrained and somewhat insightful, but now he is worse than Collinsworth IMO.

  • He deep throats whichever QB is having the better game - and when its Mahomes, you can practically feel him getting off while announcing.
    • My favorite was him absolutely nutting when Mahomes completed a simple screen pass with minimal pressure or anything. Romo was practically needing a cigarette after such amazing QB play.
  • He uses the telestrator on live plays, which significantly impacts what you can actually see.
  • He tries to predict every play, and is wrong most of the time.
  • He has no flow or rhythm in calling games or adding color. He just blurts out random noises and interrupts Nance non-stop.

He is just the worst.

As a former Philly resident, while I enjoy the Eagles losing usually, I will gladly root for them to burn down their city and blow up Broad Street in celebration as opposed to seeing Brittany, Jackson and the mother of Patrick Mahomes celebrating a win like they are on the team.
