Ace CB: German SDE Julius Welschof to Michigan

Submitted by MaizeMN on
Just saw this on 247 recruiting page. Ranked #1 SDE in Germany. This is the first I remember hearing about this recruit. Does this portend something for Friday or Sandige? Anyone have any other info? Ace?

They are neither German, socialist, or workers. Calling them Nazis is what they want as they desire the fear that the name conjures up. These phonies are nothing but two dollar losers. I am reading a book about the Einsatzgruppen, the Nazi death squads that followed the Wehrmacht into Russia. The horrors they committed make these analogies especially offensive.

First of all, despite the name, the Nazis were fascist, not socialist. As Mussolini described it, fascism is the marriage of state power with corporate power. I think it’s pretty undeniable that we have a form of that already in the US. Thankfully we don’t have anything resembling the Holocaust, even despite the various forms of discrimination (both official and otherwise) commonly visited in this country upon people of color, immigrants, GLBTQ, and other populations. But sadly, this seems to be an objective of so many people on the so-called “alt-right.” You are certainly correct that Nazi is an imprecise term. But it’s not that imprecise, and anyway enough of these right-wing groups use it themselves. Keep in mind that Hitler’s Nazis started out basically the same way as a lot of these contemporary loser groups—mobs of right-wing thugs who terrorized minorities and fought with German leftists in the streets. I think it’s more than fair to point out meaningful similarities. This idea that, “oh, well, Germany had the Holocaust so you can never compare anything happening in the US to anything the Nazis ever did” seems pretty off-base to me. I do think comparisons to the Third Reich are often abused, and it’s such an extreme example that its use often discredits the speaker. But sometimes it’s appropriate.

Can't tell if this a Big Lebowski joke or if you just outed yourself as a sympathizer with these neo-nazi, alt-right groups.

Edit: this was intended as a reply to Walter Sobcheck.  Not sure why it appeared here.  I wonder if there is one of those invisible app trolls messing up the sequence?

While your descriptions of Nazis are entertaining because they are wildly naive, it doesn't belong here.  Go to Hufpo where baseless platitudes are celebrated. This is MGoBlog, stick to sports.

According to Barton Simmons (from June), he's "freakishly athletic":

Also he can do backflips on skis. And if he commits and it works out, I'll be thrilled. But I can't say I'm excited about yet another project-type. Disclaimer, etc., Harbaugh's still the man for the job, etc.

Agree. It could work out either way. He could be a guy with limited understanding of the game who is never refined enough to see the field or he could be a great under the radar guy who we found before anyone else did. I guess that's where we are at in this cycle. Hopefully 2019 delivers on the hype and we get back into the top 10.

Does anyone know his age? It looks like he has been out of HS in Germany for 3-4 years, which would make him around 21-22 years old unless Germany ends high school earlier than the US.

"Number 1 SDE in Germany" -- they rank players in Germany in a sport they don't play?  This is like if there was an American ranking of the top high school cricketers (ok, so there probably is, honestly).
