ACC says "No" to expanded CFP

Headline says it all:

Quotes from ACC commissioner Jim Phillips: "The membership of the ACC is very much aligned in its position that now is not the time to expand the College Football Playoff."

Phillips says the ACC is more focused on working with the other conferences on "much larger issues" facing college athletics, like NCAA reform. "It's been our position since the middle of November or so."

Phillips says they got feedback from ACC athletes, and Clemson "does not want to play any extra games."

This is the ACC’s position because they know, as probably the weakest of the P-5 conferences, their chances of having more than one team in even an expanded CFP are slim. But I am surprised at the number of people who’d favor eliminating it completely, as if that would somehow make college football more exciting and interesting. Call me crazy, but I don’t think the NFL and MLB would be more exciting if they eliminated the Super Bowl and World Series and just took a vote at the end of the season to determine which team was the best, and I somehow doubt a post season vote would be more fun than March Madness.

Do one of these:

1.  Playoffs with the more, the merrier.  Reduce regular season as needed to accommodate.  The Committee will judge teams based on their play.  Doesn't matter if the team plays the next-best team in their conference or not.  We already have Bearcats in playoffs with their schedule judged relative to vastly different schedules of P5 schools.

or

2.  No playoffs and just bowl games as before.

In between is giving us 4 so-called "important" games, and the rest are so-called "meaningless" games, where increasingly all the star players sit out.  That severely degrades vitality and interest in the contest.

#2 has about zero probability of happening, though, I think.
