Indy Pete - Go Blue

It is my largely uninformed and assumed position that it was very hard for Harbaugh to completely relinquish the offense and bring in Gattis.  However, I also think that Harbaugh has found a coping mechanism, and that mechanism has a name - Ben Mason.  Harbaugh has decided that he will continue to put his own stamp on the team by allowing Mason to play full back, running back, tight end, defensive tackle, and special teams. He has also insisted that Ben scream during every defensive play as a way of releasing all of the pent-up frustrations within Harbaugh’s soul as well as within Ben’s unequaled football soul.

If I’m Tru, the last person on the field I want to see facing me is Bench Mason. Damn near looked like a cookie next to Bench, ready to be devoured.

Mason makes Wilson look like a little kid.  He reminds me of my buddy from college, who incidentally was also a FB on our D3 football team and later went on to be a strength coach with the Jets, Columbia, and Stanford, but mannerisms, the way he talks, and his look is kinda creepily similar.

Ben Mason looks like he could pick up and fold Tru and put him in his pocket. Also loved the "little Mikey" comment. Ben Mason is a national treasure.

maybe its just me, but don't you get the feeling that ben mason has two lines of thought running through his head?  he's got the words that he is speaking, but the look in his eyes is more like, 'i'm planning on attacking right now, and the words coming out of my mouth are only to lull you into a sense of complacency before i spring'.

I would guess he is a challenge for any O linemen to lock up on.

Granted it was a different era but Mark Messner comes to mind.  All American DT who was 6’3” and 250 tops.   He won on speed, quickness, toughness and smarts.

Don’t  disregard how disruptive Ben could be for guys not used seeing his skill sets.  And I seriously doubt he is just an easy push out of the hole.

What in gods name was that Sainristil question?

"Like, kinda, what like was like Mike like being a receiver well, I know you're not a receiver. Hehe. He. Hehe. Haha"

I can't think of a Michigan football player in my lifetime whose fan adulation level is as far above his actual accomplishments on the field as Ben Mason. It's a weird cult.

If he's able to do things on the field that bear even the slightest resemblance to the extent and kind of reverence he gets, he's going to have a tremendous career here.

There is a love of the throwback fullback/LB type guy.  The guy who desperately wants to hit someone.  We had a kid on my HS team who was a fantastic athlete and returned like 9 or 10 kicks for touchdowns.  He was the backup QB (should have been the starter), and starting cornerback.  No one got past him, or caught anything, but he'd shy away from contact dragging people down or pushing them out of bounds.   People didn't feel he was a real football player despite being the best athlete on the field.    Most wide receivers are this way.   For most football players (anyone on the line or LBs), football is about hitting.

Rashan and Jabrill are well loved, had many more accomplishments, and did not shy away from contact, but you didn't get the sense that they needed to hit someone.   Bench Mason is like a hit vampire.  If he doesn't hit someone hard and often he'll starve.

I might be overstating, but that's why Harbaugh likes him.  That's why it seems cultish.  There are skill players and football players.  Mason is a football player.
