Per Aaron McMann, LB Cornell Wheeler transferring
Need a scholarship for Toia
Can you imagine, Toia and Whittley both on the team!
Best of luck to the kid. Hopefully he finds a place where he can make some plays.
Colson has been getting a lot of hype, but this move makes me think NHG and Mullings probably passed him, too.
The off ball linebackers aren't gonna have much depth this year, but I'm not worried about the two deep.
If a guy gets passed and is unlikely to contribute much, can't fault him for wanting to get snaps elsewhere. Best of luck to the young man.
Not to mention Barrett and Ross on top of the depth chart to begin with.
Velazquez might've stolen some at-bats too.
Need a big year out of John Ross.
Barrett is interesting to me. Doesn't seem as natural of a fit in this defense, but looked pretty good at times last year. I'm just hoping Ross bounces back strong. Seems like a guy the coaches really like. Hopefully they can play to his strengths better this season.
If Colson is getting the 'future captain' talk already, they probably think he's an NFL guy. Those dudes don't typically stay on the bench long. Wouldn't be surprised if he takes someone's job this year.
Barrett is at least more of a true linebacker than Peppers or Hudson were. He may not be the ideal fit, but at 6’ 230 lbs and with his athleticism, he should be serviceable at the least.
Hudson, and to a much larger extent Peppers, both seemed a bit more like safeties than Barrett.
Hudson is playing linebacker in the nfl?? Lmao
He is. I don’t think I said he wasn’t. I also don’t know what him currently playing linebacker in the NFL has to do with what I said.
He can be “more like a safety than Barrett” and still be a linebacker.
NFL teams like having DL, so they're probably not putting Hudson in a position where he has to sell out and take risks to stop a team's run game.
"Velazquez might've stolen some at-bats too."
I see what you did there...
The current game of D1 football requires LBs that can fly.
Think Devin Bush.
You are who you can cover.
Devin Bush is a savant who also hits like a truck. Dude is a hell of a player. Can't wait to see him come back this year.
I think Michigan is looking for their off ball linebackers to be a little bigger at this point. Ross, Colson, NHG, and Mullings are all in that ~6'1" 230 range. Gotta have the size to take on blocks.
NHG and Mullings have been ahead of him pretty much the entire time since they enrolled.
Transfer portal, another one bites the dust.
Not to be rude ... but I first thought ‘who?’. I had to lookup this recruit.
PANIC
Ahhhh, a 3rd string LB is transferring.
... AT THE DISCO!
Cant say I'm that surprised, never expected him to be anything more than a depth player.
Good luck wherever you end up, unless its MSU.
I looked him up at ourlads.com. He's at 3rd string. I don't know that him leaving is a statement about the new D coaches. If Junior Colson was pulling out, I'd raise an eyebrow.
BTW, Junior Colson might have an impact this year. His film looks fantastic.
Ourlads isn't updated, as Colson isn't even on the list.
Well, maybe he's at 4th string.
Who?
Right?
Damn we should have hired his high school coach…
I don’t post often if at all but I read multiple times a week, Umbig11 was a big reason why. Even used to Google “umbig11 mgoblog” and click on his profile just to see what insight he had for the day...wtf happened?
