97.1 announces that Rico Beard will be new co-host with Mike Valenti
I haven't been in Detroit for over a decade now so I've been spared accidentally listening to these guys, but I legitimately thought that channel had changed format years ago.
Anyway, glad to see local sports radio making a play for the future by hiring dumb person to yell on the radio.

Love the Valenti show; I think it's important to listen to opinions that you don't share or agree with. Sad that Sully is gone. I live out of state so only catch the podcasts now
I know I’ll get negged, but Valenti, as a lot of people do, seems to have grown and matured. He used to use a “the sky is falling” or “best team ever” approach, almost a sports themed shock jock, no middle ground, and it worked for a while. He seems much more rational ever since his Spartans have repeatedly shit the bed.
This will be a total Sparty shit show. They can both kiss my cotton picking maize and blue ass forever.
I haven't listened to 97.1 since I went to college back in 2011, but I'm glad they're giving me more reasons to continue not listening to them
Glad I I can finally agree with the fan base on here for once. I have been in Michigan for 5 years now and, even though I enjoy Valenti's dressing down of UofM fans, I find him tedious. People who speak with such certainty annoy me. Not much curiosity or nuance with him. I much prefer the humble and jolly approach of a Wojo to a blowhard like Valenti. And what kind of community feeds off a guy who seems to loathe the sports community he lives in? Go to most markets and you will find guys who give honest takes but are legit fans of the local sports scene. Not Valenti. Sullivan was the only person that made his show remotely tolerable.
I can't wait to not listen to them.
This show will die if it isn’t already done. South East Michigan people do not want to talk about Spartan athletics. Trying to force MSU sports and opinions on listeners will not work in the long run. 97.1 needs some new talent but Beard is not objective at all towards UM.
Rico Beard is an idiot. Should fit right in.
