When it was 6-6 teams it didn't matter. They'd always take the Texas.

But because they don't have enough teams to fill the bowl schedule and they allow 5-7 teams now that we have 192 bowls. That's been the tiebreaker for all 5-7 teams.

If you look carefully in this photo, you can see the North Carolina fan.

In all honesty though, I am pretty sure that the attendance for the MAC Championship game, which wasn't bad at all for that game, will probably not be eclipsed by the bowl game to be played in Ford Field in a few weeks. Strangely enough, I think the best attendance I can remember was when Purdue was in it a few years ago - at least a few dozen folks made the trek up from West Lafayette.

Is that it keeps this stupid 4-team playoff in place. If we'd go with fewer bowls they could serve as a true playoff system and we could have a national championship that means something, instead of some teams being able to point at their convincing bowl win and whine that it proves they should have been one of the 4 teams in the playoff. Like Urban will absolutely do this year. Again. (Yes. I'm still bitter about his campaign to keep UM out of the championship game in '06. I will carry that bitterness to my grave.)

Play the quarterfinals of an 8-team tournament at the home site of the top 4 seed.

So it wouldn't have any impact on the current bowl structure.

Do the quarterfinals at the home site to provide a home field advantage...and then do everything else exactly how it's done now with the neutral site.

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when the NCAA decided to add more bowl games. They must have discussed the realistic possibility of 5-7 teams making it and whether or not it was a good idea. It just proves even further that they only care about the money. How likely is it for a 5-7 to fire its coach? How can the players and fans even get excited about a bowl game when their team has more losses than wins and nothing to prove? It's not like they get placed in a playoff scenario where they can win a title. A win doesn't even prove that they're better than their opponent in that game, and with a win they still finish with a losing record!

Nebraska's seniors should step up and decline playing in a bowl. What a disgrace to the seniors who want to play in a bowl game after going 5-7. Those Nebraska boys have one of the best and one if the most storied programs to shame themselves by going to such a crappy bowl game because of money.

Yeah, you have a right to tell Nebraska seniors what to do. It's an exhibition, who cares. It's the last chance for most of those seniors to ever lace em up.

Because for many of these seniors this will be the last time they ever put on pads. Sorry, I don't think pride is a good reason to not have the last opportunity in your life to play the game of football.
If the athletic department were to decline the bowl because of financial reasons we would all be saying how terrible it is to take away this opportunity from the young men, now you want to tell them to not compete because of pride. Sorry. That's just not very smart.

So put yourself in their shoes. You have been playing football for your whole life.  You have the opportunity to win one more game of the sport you love-- would you really turn it down or just quit and be done playing competitive football forever?

I said it before and I'll say it again and again. You can feel free to watch whatever shitty TV show you want, I'll be watching 5-7 teams play football.
