4* Cali WR Commits Xavier Worthy and Christian Dixon visit this weekend for MSU
Xavier Worthy and Christian Dixon both are visiting the campus for the first time this weekend for the MSU game. This is particularly important because both committed without ever seeing the campus.
Also add another 4* CB to the list of top prospects visiting for the Wisconsin game on the 14th. 2022 4* CB Issac Thompson will visit alongside 2021 4* CB Ceyair Wright and 2022 5* CB's Domani Jackson and Will Johnson. Xavier Worthy also said he will be coming back for the Wisconsin game. Hopefully they get to see us roll over MSU and Wisconsin. If Wisconsin is down to their back up back up QB, I expect our secondary to show out against Wisconsin and hopefully impress the young recruits.

That's the dream DB class right there. Make some moves!
October 27th, 2020 at 9:49 AM ^
For anyone counting, that's 5 players from Cali visiting in the up coming weeks, all 4-5* players. That Cali pipe line is full steam ahead.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:08 AM ^
Hopefully they see we need tall WRs and...uh, any competent DBs
October 27th, 2020 at 10:12 AM ^
Hopefully they see all the speed we have at WR. And then turn to Xavier Wilson and say "Damn, we would have to cover this much speed during practice? What better way to prepare for the league". Talent attracts talent.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:16 AM ^
Uhhh.... The receivers coming are already committed.
October 27th, 2020 at 11:51 AM ^
Solidify commitments
October 27th, 2020 at 9:51 AM ^
Whos the USC coach right now? I hope they suck. Need these Cali recruits.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:05 AM ^
Still Clay Helton. Somehow...
October 27th, 2020 at 10:09 AM ^
Hopefully FSU, USC, and Texas continue to suck so we can keep those pipe lines going.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:38 AM ^
FSU had a big win 2 saturdays ago, so i was a bit afraid if they won this week and we lost. Thankfully, that did not even come close.
October 27th, 2020 at 12:43 PM ^
But not suck too much, like 9-3 seasons (the Bo Pellini line) to keep Helton and Mensa at USC and TX. Even a pretty good coach for USC would make CA a tough pull between Oregon and USC.
October 27th, 2020 at 9:52 AM ^
It's probably Isaac.
October 27th, 2020 at 12:00 PM ^
Ever since the Ty Isaac days, this blog, despite having a lot of smart people, has been awful at spelling the name "Isaac." And somehow people love the double-s which doesn't even make sense from a pronunciation standpoint.
And while I'm nit-picking, no one in California says "Cali" and it sounds lame when other people do. Just sayin'.
October 27th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
So let me get some other rulings. Which of the following are ok:
1) Frisco
2) San Fran
3) Californ-EYE-A
October 27th, 2020 at 1:06 PM ^
None of the above.
It's; Sanfransisco, pronounced as one word. People from there will fight you for saying "Frisco".
October 27th, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
It's Californy...now say it right.
October 27th, 2020 at 7:01 PM ^
Your first two are both NorCal terms which I don't have an opinion on as that may as well be another state.
Honestly, I'm cool with #3 though. So are the Beach Boys so it has to be legit.
October 27th, 2020 at 9:58 AM ^
With absolutely 0 basis fort his, that Ceyair Wright visit seems huge and possibly a significant sign considering the visit was the biggest hurdle to clear in order to be a serious contender. If he's coming all the way out to Michigan to see a game on his own (obviously others are coming as well) that has to bode well.
Still ready to be disappointed though because... BPONE!
October 27th, 2020 at 10:21 AM ^
I heard a rumor from a buddy (Affiliated with the NCAA) that after the Covid restrictions are lifted, the coaches are hoping they will be able to reimburse these kids for these visits. At least that's the hope and plan.
October 27th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
I notice, in this scenario, that there is no direct line between what the coaches are hoping for and what the NCAA has proposed/not proposed or wants/doesn't want. Judging from the lack of action by the NCAA on any visitation issues, I wouldn't count on that direct line ever being established.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:02 AM ^
Worthy is one helluva prospect-likely an instant contributor. However, Wright, Jackson and Johnson are just as important gets from the defensive side.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:08 AM ^
I hope the weather is nice. Either warmish for the time of year, or getting some snow to make the big house look like a snow globe during the game. Hope it's not shitty shoulder season wintery mix.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:43 AM ^
This Saturday, it's supposed to be 51 and mostly sunny in AA, which is pretty much the best-case scenario for this time of year. Fingers crossed!
October 27th, 2020 at 3:59 PM ^
51 and mostly sunny, but 75 IN the sun with the UV.
“How can you go to Michigan, it’s so cold?”
”It’s a dry cold, it’s not bad”

With them both coming for the MSU game, they will get to see the QB they'll play with next year (Milton), and also the QB they'll most likely play with in 2022 - McNamara. I mean, I think it's fairly safe to say that MSU will get drubbed quickly enough for McNamara (Mc?) to get some decent PT...
I guess it's possible that JJ McCarthy could get the nod at QB in '22, but I'm saying now that he doesn't. I think McNamara gets a year because experience...
October 27th, 2020 at 10:17 AM ^
JJ supposedly is also coming for the Wisconsin game so he'll be able to meet up with Xavier Worthy for that potential QB1 to WR1 connection.
October 27th, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
JJ will absolutely take over after Milton...
October 27th, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
Just like McCaffrey will absolutely take over after Shea.
October 27th, 2020 at 12:32 PM ^
Here is a hypothetical based on attributes and recruiting ranking. Joe Milton goes pro after the 2021 season. QB battle between 4th year McNamara or 2nd year McCarthy. McNamara has more experience, is the safer choice but projects to be more of a game manager. McCarthy would have little experience but has the higher upside. Would you rather roll with McNamara, who might give you a better chance to win in 2022 or would you rather go with McCarthy who could potentially have 2-3 years of high upside QB play?
Pretty similar scenario to Milton vs McCaffrey actually. This time, upside and talent won out. Personally, i'd rather roll the dice on McCarthy to potentially groom an elite QB who can lead the team for multiple years. Hypothetically of course.
October 27th, 2020 at 2:48 PM ^
I believe McNamara is a whole lot better than many are giving him credit for. I think he is a "game manager" along the lines of a Joe Montana. I love him sitting there behind Milton right now-taking it all in. If Joe goes down this offense will be different but won't miss a beat.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:14 AM ^
Bad news for MSU. I assume the coaching staff (and team) will be happy to find as many ways as possible to show off how WRs and "speed in space" fit into this offense.
October 27th, 2020 at 11:10 AM ^
They don't need to run up the score or anything, but they can run the offense fully and let the score reflect whatever it reflects. If Dantonio were still there I'd feel otherwise and want them to purposefully run it up some.
That being said, come out and dominate from the get go, don't try to wow anyone, just pummel them into the ground and get the ball spread around to show off what the offense can do. Then get some back ups some reps but don't constrict the playbook too much. Let everyone in on the fun, the full extent of it all.
October 27th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
I don’t think coaches regularly change their gameplan or playcalling based on recruits in attendance. That said, MSU is gonna get bombed on and UW, if Mertz is still out, won’t give our nascent secondary too much trouble.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:27 AM ^
Hopefully the possibility of not being able to play the Wisconsin game does not deter the buzz around the recruiting that weekend.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:35 AM ^
Why would Wiscy be down to their backup QB? We do not play them for what, 19 days? Their starting QB is going to be out i beleive 10 ish more days. I beleive he will not only be back for Wiscy, but back the game before we even play them.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:45 AM ^
The B1G's COVID rules state that a player must be out for 21 days following a confirmed positive test. Michigan-Wisconsin is scheduled for the 20th day following the initial positive test, so Mertz won't be able to play.
My bigger concern is that Michigan-Wisconsin won't happen at all if the virus spreads through the Badger team...
October 27th, 2020 at 11:13 AM ^
I wonder if cancelled games are determined by the individual teams or if it needs to be agreed upon by both teams and the league. If they still have a QB on roster that can play, are they required to play if they are missing the top 3 players on their depth chart? Minnesota played without a kicker/punter. But QB is the most important position.
October 28th, 2020 at 10:56 AM ^
The B1G also has a rule that that teams must halt activity for at least seven days if their positivity rate averages more than 5 percent over a rolling seven-day period and their population positivity rate — the number of positive individuals on a team divided by those deemed at risk — exceeds 7.5 percent. That's the rule that could lead to a game being cancelled.
October 27th, 2020 at 11:14 AM ^
They may be referring to Coan. Frankly I haven't seen a good update on what his "foot injury" was but many are assuming it was some kind of break. That makes it iffy that he will be anywhere near close to 100% even if he is back in time for the M game.
Barring some false positive stuff It's probably going to be (Vanden)BOOM time vs. M.
PS - Saw something on my twitter feed today highlighting a push by doctors to monitor Covid athletes more closely for heart and lung damage. Sounds like the B1G was in front on this issue.

Umm what the hell? Xavier worthy was already on campus because California canceled their season i thought

Can we turn up the thermostat a few clicks for these guys? I guess 51 at game time isn’t terrible, but that could play a role with the Cali guys.
October 27th, 2020 at 1:01 PM ^
Geez...if we can land 2 of those 3CB's we will be in really great shape the next couple of years!
Isn't winning FUN?! Let's do it again at least 7 more times:)
