30 for 30 Doc Premieres Saturday: "The Great Heisman Race of 1997"

OK, I know we're supposed to hate ESPN and never watch ESPN again, but I'm going to put that aside for one night and watch this and DVR this and watch it again and again and again.

The latest 30 for 30 is "The Great Heisman Race of 1997" and it premieres on Saturday night after the Heisman presentation. I believe this is the first Michigan story to be featured on a 30 for 30 since "The Fab Five." Here's a trailer:

Whatever happened to all of you who were down for the cause?

Lol, boycott over that quick, huh?

🤣🤣🤣

(it was always a stupid idea...watch what you want to watch. If the bias of ESPN pisses you off, fuck em...if you only want to watch Michigan content, great. If you never watch ESPN again, cool. It never needed to be the civil rights movement some were making it out to be.)

right on, brother.

i generally avoid espn just based on my general antipathy toward shouting morons…so i’ve been doing my own de facto gameday “boycott” for a long time now. but as i said at the time, if you usually watch gameday because you like it, keep watching it.  don’t steal your own joy!

this looks like it’s worth a look, too.  y’all wanna watch? watch.

Fuck you guys. I was supposed to go to bed a hour ago but instead I went on YouTube and watched Woodson highlight videos after opening this post.

I was 12 years old when all this was happening and even seeing all this with my own eyes in real time, I don't think I quite appreciated how good Charles was.

Tom Brady may have gone on to even bigger and better things, and Desmond is obviously Desmond but Charles is still my vote for Michigan's GOAT, don't care what anyone else has to say.

Can't wait. I'm rooting for Woodson. He deserves to win!

Also, can't wait for the next Michigan 30 for 30 documenting how Harbaugh went from a local boy, to a hometown hero, to restorying the program and winning the natty this year

We had the Red Wings winning the Stanley Cup in June, Charles winning the Heisman and then winning it all in the Rose Bowl. Damn, 1997 was a great year. (And yes, I know the Rose Bowl was in 1998.)

Barry Sanders, 2000 yards.

And the Detroit Tigers had a 79-78 record on the evening of September 23, after beating the Boston Red Sox 6-0.  I comically remember the Free Press had a 36-point "ABOVE 500!!!" headline after that one.  The Tigers then promptly lost 5 straight to end the year, because, of course they did.
