3 more freshmen played against Cincy

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

You all saw O'Maury Samuels get that last carry before the victory formation, but two more freshmen also played.

Brad Hawkins was one of the return options on the free kick after the safety.

Cesar Ruiz also got into the game on an extra point I believe.

He switched from #51 to #96, spotted below by yours truly.

The complete list of scholarship freshmen that have played-

  • Tarik Black
  • Brad Hawkins
  • Ben Mason
  • Kwity Paye
  • Donovan Peoples-Jones
  • Josh Ross
  • Cesar Ruiz
  • O'Maury Samuels
  • Aubrey Solomon
  • Benjamin St-Juste
  • Andrew Stueber
  • Ambry Thomas
  • J'Marick Woods

Back in 2007 in Madison, WI after a 37-21 Michigan loss (Ryan Mallett's two picks didn't help) I approached a young woman wearing an "Ann Arbor is a Whore" t-shirt (people do that stuff in Madison). I told her I had known Ann for many, many years. Her morals might slip a little after a couple beers, but she never, ever charged money for sexual favors. I considered it important to point that out, and suggested she modify her t-shirt accordingly.

Did OP just pat himself on the back for noticing a gigantic number on one of our top recruits who also happens to be over 300 lbs.?

I'm not certain, but number switches usually happen because someone with the same number may also play offense (previously that person may have only been a special teams option). Michigan has a lot of doubled up numbers. Just a guess though, I can't recall what number Ruiz had before.

anyone expected to start next year should probably be getting as much game experience as we can afford to give.  Unfortunately, not a lot of mop up time in this one to get him more.

Plus, as we saw last year, seems like they'll get a number of these guys medical RS anyway.

Not really a fan of playing freshmen who aren't instant impact players or depth guys that need to play. I don't really get the Omaury Samuels redshirt burn when we have Ty Isaac, Chris Evans, and Higdon in front of him. A 5th year from him in 2021 is probably going to be more valuable than spot duty his freshmen year. This is part of why our roster is in such a hole right now from Hoke not redshirting anybody in 2013.

A) The team is not too young. Young teams win national championships, and Michigan is extremely talented and coached by one of the best staffs in college football.

B) Some of the players you are referring to who are playing this season will have a mysterious injury in the next couple games and their redshirt will come back on. It's how the game is played.

Summary: relax and trust Harbaugh.
