247 College Football Show, Barton Simmons Picks Michigan to Win the BIG 10
Last year was a step back. It was supposed to be a step back....
I happen to believe that eventually Jim Harbaugh gets over the hump....
I believe that this is a team that's good enough to beat everybody on their schedule....
It's all about the quarterback position. Because that was what was missing last year. And that's really what held them back 2 years ago....
52 minute video. They start with Michigan, move on to the rest of the BIG 10, then on to other teams:

When people are asked to explain their pick of Michigan and they stumble over words, I would just have them say 'we struggled last year to complete a forward pass.
I'm no expert but I'm confident we will be able to complete a five or ten yard forward pass this season, maybe even one or more per game and that shall make all the difference.
Last year was Michigan's least experienced team in recent decades by a MILE (see below from @IBFC_M). The last two years we've had to deal with Brady Hoke's absolutely pathetic QB recruiting filling our upper classes. Neither of those things is a problem anymore. It's a brutal schedule, but we can take a huge leap.
So we are picked anywhere between 1-4. None of it matters.
“It’s not what you are underneath. It’s what you do that defines you.”
I agree with Barton Simmons but man he sounds like he just had five shots and five beer chasers. It really does boil down to Patterson's performance. If the OL can keep his jersey clean and he lives up to his 5-star potential then we will no doubt win the East and likely the B1G.
Still think if Jake could’ve played one more year that 2016 team makes the playoffs.
So I’m confident Shea can get us back in the right direction.
If the officials hadn't royally screwed UM repeatedly in the the 2016 version of The Game, UM would have made the playoffs even with Speight at QB.
We can't ignore the obvious: UM's offense gained 5 yards in the fourth quarter and we had critical turnovers. We royally screwed ourselves. Let's stop blaming others for our own demise.
The safety at Iowa started this slump. I really believe we go 11-1 this year and only lose to a team we should have beaten. If we score 24 points in every game last year.......no one is talking trash this year
All set up by Iowa's goofy-ass punter who was the MVP of that game.
Having a QB that does not have to run for his life, see and hit open recievers, will make a huge difference. Sustained drives and more points will take a boulder off the D’s back.
Go Blue!
Agree. Not only should Patterson be very good, he's got a ton of weapons and we have depth across the board. This season for me boils down to the offensive line. I'm optimistic considering you have experience, highly rated guys on the interior (Bredeson, Ruiz, and Onwenu) and the main question coming at tackles. If Warriner has the same effect he's had at previous coaching stops, this line could actually be very good and give us flashbacks to the mauling days of Michigan lines.
"It's all about the quarterback position..."
More like "it's all about the refs not giving Ohio State a tilted field in The Game every year," but I guess Michigan becoming the next Alabama is an easier pathway forward.
