2022 5* DT Walter Nolan includes Michigan in Top 10

#2 Overall prospect in the 2022 class. Top 10 list includes LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Florida, Oregon, Ohio State, Tennessee, Auburn and USC.

Dad listed out LSU, Bama, Florida, Michigan, Oregon and OSU as the teams he knew were going to be included before today, hinting at a real top 6. Mentions Ann Arbor specifically as a place he wants to take Walter to (as well as the west coast schools). Will be a tough get but Dad seems to be on our side early.

Few things to take note:

  • Walter's grandparents live in Detroit, giving Michigan a local familial connection
  • Recent commit Kody Jones is childhood friends with Walter, having played pee wee football together
  • Walter's family are big 49er fans and are big fans of Jim Harbaugh.
  • Ron Bellamy has a mutual connection with Walter through Jeremy LeSueur.

My guess at his top 10 without looking or knowing anything about him other than he is a 5-star and plays HS football in Tennessee.

  1. Michigan
  2. Tennessee
  3. Alabama
  4. LSU
  5. Clemson
  6. Ohio State
  7. Notre Dame
  8. Florida
  9. LSU
  10. Georgia

Actually he's not wrong. This kid is from Tennessee. LSU is in the Top 10 twice. Once because LSU, and once to piss off Ole Miss. His final 3 hats on the table will be Michigan, LSU, and LSU, the second LSU narrowly edging out UT after they've fired their coach for the third time since this thread...

Sam hasn’t exactly been optimistic with this one which is a big sign to me that it’s not much of a chance right now but not impossible.

He did however more or less come out and say that this is an example of a highly ranked kid who the previous defensive staff wouldn’t have necessarily stayed after because he wasn’t a slam dunk to Michigan, which....wtf. I’m all for not wasting time completely but if we aren’t pursuing top kids we won’t get top kids. You miss 100% of the shots....

Well with 10 teams listed its not 'very likely' for any of the teams.

But I am definitely impressed by the recruiting of these new coaches. Its early but it almost feels like have a staff full of Chris Partridge's out on the recruiting trail.

If you just look at the success they've had recently, I think the chances of Alabama, LSU, Clemson, or OSU landing this kid are better than for the other schools on his list.

I'm somewhat surprised Oklahoma isn't on there.

Look .... if you sit and piss & moan about the girl that got away, you’ll never catch em’. Gotta put the work in and try.  Might catch em’. Might not.  But you won’t know sittin’ and dreamin’ about it in Schembechler Hall.
