I exclusively watched Hayes-he is going to receive a very high grade. He needs to improve his strength but he knows his assignments and executes very well. LT does not appear to be a problem with this team.

I think the line played well in general. Some of the running lanes they opened up were just massive.

After rewatching I feel like Patterson had a pretty rough night though. Made some really nice plays but missed a lot of throws including that simple screen. Seemed to me like he's still underthrowing his deep balls (Nico and Black TDs for example). And his fumble was definitely him trying to do too much.

Hope they knocked out the cob webs and will look much sharper next week.

My biggest criticism with Patterson is that he did not make one good throw under any significant pressure (that includes the screen where the intent of the play is for him to attract the rush, but he still panicked in his throw.  O'Hara single handedly put his team in this game by making tough throws under constant pressure.  I did not see that from Patterson.

Yeah, he definitely didn't feel out of place at all. You can really tell the upgrade in athleticism and length in pass pro at both tackle spots. They effortlessly mirrored speed rushes and shoved guys harmlessly upfield for the most part. Hayes in particular didn't seem to miss assignments much if at all. Mayfield had a couple dorfs, but nothing unexpected for a first start. We'll see how they do against a stronger DL, particularly in the run game, but so far so good.

I rewatched the full game today and feel much better.  Other than the turn overs and subsequent momentum,  MTSU didn’t do much against us.  (And also the garbage time TD against the second string.  O’Hara had a few inspired running plays which worry me against Fields.  Lot of good to build on.

Thanks for this man.

The amount of times Shea missed Bell out in the flat was bad. The fake handoff to the RB with Bell running behind the QB left Bell wide open twice with 20+ yards of room to run. Other times it would have gained more yards than the play that occurred.

Bell also needs to catch those 2 passes in the end zone. Same with Mckeon in the middle of the field.

Sometimes Shea goes for the big play when the simple pass over the middle would have been the better play. Forcing 30+ yard passes isn’t going to work, passing 5-10 yards in front when the receiver has nobody on them will net you greater yards than forcing passes into tight coverage.

Oh, and inside the 5 we really can’t just through Mason our there? No way the team forgot how to run the fullback dive

Other than that I really did like what I saw from the offense. The film review will help Shea and others see the missed opportunities on the field. This offense can’t get stalled in years past. Need to make the simple plays.

Hayes traded off a blocking assignment on an RPO slant play over the middle which shows a really high IQ. Onwenhu pulls and Hayes moves off his block to take the inside pressure.

Impressive.

And he looks like he could still add 30 lbs

Both OTs tipped whether it was a run or pass by the stance they took - down for a run & upright for a pass.  I didn't watch the Guards to see if they did the same.  How is this acceptable?

Wow, I don’t think I saw one dreadful running play where we ran into a stacked box for 0 yards.  RBs had plenty of #space to run.

ZC and Turner are major upgrades over last year’s rb group
