Was this kid in on an official last weekend? Can't say I blame him. According to the article after being told that Texas wouldn't recruit any other Q's, they have in-homes with FSU and TA&M qB commits.

If you have 3 scholarship QB's you are probably good taking just 1.  If you have 2 scholarship QB's you panic and grab 2 in your upcoming class

This is feeling like a 5th year senior may not be coming back and that we get the announcement upon his graduation.

Agreed. I love the strategy. It gives you much better odds to find an elite QB. Especially when the tradeoff could be a fourth string CB or something. Chances are that the QBs who lose the battle to start will transfer out anyway. If not, we have veteran backups.

Word from Sam Webb is that one of Texas' assistants will still have an in-home with Gentry tomorrow morning, and Charlie Strong will have one after he comes back from Michigan

Displeasure on the part of Gentry regarding the pursuit of other quarterbacks wouldn't even be fear of competition for the New Mexico product, it would be the result of the staff not entirely keeping its word to him.

I actually wondered what the about face entailed, but if the Longhorns indeed said to Gentry that he was the only QB they would take and then promptly went away to scout alternatives, then I see where this kid resents the lip service paid to him. On the surface anyway, at least to me, it seems like a very strange thing for a recruiter to promise, but I've never had to sit in a living room and convince a kid to go to my school.

Good family friend is a reasonably big Texas booster and has ins with the UT recruiting team.  He just messaged me that Gentry is 100%, set in stone committing to Michigan, according to his guys inside the UT program.  He's pretty pissed they lost out on him, FWIW.

Here We Go Again...

Last time someone on this board posted, "Got a buddy who's inside organization X," Bagheera was saying, "My buddy in the Raiders organization says they are already negotiating with Harbaugh and hes coming to Oakland" -- despite that this was two weeks before the end of the regular season and thus would have been a massive violation of NFL no-tampering rules.  (And no one violates NFL rules against tampering with things like coaches, football air pressure, etc.)

So pardon me when I say... I'm just going to pretend you didn't say that, and wait for the LOI.

So Gentry tells Texas he's 100% going to Michigan. The Texas coaches know this, and tell some donors. One donor turns around and tells his good family friend. Yet, through this large game of telephone, this news somehow doesn't wind up all over twitter/recruiting circles? bullest_of_shit
