1/6/2020 Depth Chart Status

Submitted by reddogrjw on January 6th, 2020 at 7:43 PM

I plan to do this once a week or so and put the depth chart in the first post so I can edit it

Only people assured of leaving have been removed.

Some players listed at more than one spot, especially on the OL

Currently 87 scholarship players.

Designate the likely walk-ons with * since some get 1-year scholarships sometimes

That's funny about BVS, Iowa had his slated to play outside LB and Don Brown had him playing linebacker all year last year.  I'm sure you know more, he's a 4.6 guy all day long.

I'd ask the question about Ben Mason, is he gonna play in the the NFL?  I'd say yes, so why come back and do nothing at Michigan for another year.  I'm sure he will graduate this spring, if I was advising him I'd got to the league and find a role on a NFL squad and start making cash now.

The FB touches will decrease as time goes on, they will use the H TE for those, Ben is already practicing with the TE as of bowl practices.  I love Ben Mason, and if I were him I'd be out.  But he may love being a special teams warrior for a team that will win 9-10 games and get blitzed to end the season.

Rumler is not ahead of many others, I know the hype had been big for him but the people I have talked to feel others are better than him at this point.  Barnhart appears to be a beast at this point look for him to make an impact.

I agree on Turner. This is not inside knowledge, but after his fumbles early he vanished and Michigan got good production from Haskins and Charbonnet. Now we have Evans returning for a year and Corum coming in; it’s a loaded depth chart, and logic suggests that not everyone will stay.

I don’t relish Turner leaving, since he showed flashes of excellence, but this is real life. His best shot might be somewhere else, and he’s talented enough to really contribute.

Mason’s role here might be questionable, but it’s questionable everywhere. I guess I wouldn’t be shocked if he left, but I’d be surprised.

Although the 2020 Michigan Baseball roster hasn’t been posted yet, has Joey Velazquez who was an All-State outfielder in Ohio, but who's listed as projected third-string Viper decided whether he’ll be joining the baseball team?

The defense should be at least as good as this year if Ambry returns. I think the only other losses are Lavert Hill, Glasgow, Hudson, and Metellus.

Dax Hill should effectively replace almost all of the Metellus minutes, which will likely be a major upgrade. Glasgow had a solid year, but I think we will be faster without him. Hudson is a significant loss, but again, we have athletic guys in Barrett and Solomon. We will be fine at corner if Ambry returns.

Unfortunately the front four will likely struggle with physical lines like OSU and Wisconsin.

If Hinton can turn into an impact player we would be set. It’s completely realistic to hope for it as well. 5 star DT who played as a freshman and held his own without frequent major problems. He should start to show Star potential as a sophomore if it’s coming.

I get the sentiment but UMBIG11 seems to be at least a decent fellow as to how he interacts on here and he is often correct. That being said, I think most of the scuttlebutt is if he is actually an insider OR is he really good at digging for rumors and making an educated guess. If the latter is the case (which seems like is starting to be the consensus on here) I'd say "welcome to sports message boards" and it's really not a big deal, right?

You must miss the posts where he attacks other posters whether it is on his “Umbig11” account or his “Chernobyl...” account.  He indeed used to be good to interact with, but now he shows up to flame the program and individual players.  I don’t care if you wanna call out the coaches, they’re getting paid.  As for the players, even in game threads I don’t like it in the way he does it.  Also, I think he lost his access and appears bitter.

I think when healthy Dwumfour & Kemp were our DTs so I'd expect it to remain that way regardless of technical position.  Brian also suggested Bell would move outside which would move Jackson/Sainristill to the slot.  So, our 3 starting WRs would be Collins, Bell, & Jackson/Sainristill with Johnson coming off the bench on the outside and probably Henning to do so in the slot.

I’m guessing we’re keeping defensive coaching staff.

We should start looking for big bodies and maybe another DB but safety is looking really good IMO and if the younger CBs ball out DT is the only glaring need on the whole roster IMO.
