#15 Michigan Baseball beats Canisius 9-0 to open 2016 season

Submitted by Jpnets54 on

Coming off an NCAA regional appearance in 2015, the Michigan baseball team got off to a good start in their opening game of the 2016 season by defeating Canisius 9-0.

Brett Adcock (2015 All-Big Ten 3rd Team) got the start and pitched 5 and 1/3 scoreless innings, continuing his great form from the end of last season.

Each of Michigan's first five batters in the lineup recorded 2 hits in the game: Jake Bivens (2015 Big Ten Freshman of the Year), Matt Ramsey, Carmen Benedetti (2015 All-Big Ten First Team), Drew Lugbauer (who played DH instead of catcher today), and Cody Bruder.

The two teams will play the 2nd and 3rd game of this 4 game series tomorrow at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.  Go Blue!

For those who don't know, Matt Ramsay is a 5th-year grad transfer from Wofford College, who hit .357 last season and was named to the All-Southern Conference Second Team. I point this out because his addition to the roster was little noted in the preseason, but he obviously will be playing a big role on the team this year.

Two other newcomers were in the starting lineup today: juco transfer Michael Brdar at short and freshman Ako Thomas at second.

EDIT: Also, freshman RHP Troy Miller (another California product, like Brdar) made his debut, pitching the last two innings.
