15 Below Friday Posbang - We Got Our Football Coach!

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on February 4th, 2022 at 5:33 AM

Mates,

I know, why a posbang on a nothing Friday?  Well, first and most importantly, we got our football coach and that drama is over.  Not only that, but also Harbaugh confirmed something that I thought he would, here quoted in the Freep article:

“And I told him, ‘Warde, this will not be a reoccurring theme every year. This was a one time thing."

I take him at his word.  Harbaugh is an open book in many ways and I think he got his 'ya-ya's' out about the NFL.  He's ours for as long as we want him.  To that point, I hope you took the time to listen to even a few minutes of the Alex Boone podcast that was posted below.  I had no idea who Boone was, and it turns out he was an OSU lineman who played for Harbaugh on the Niners. Man, he had some of the very best stuff I have ever heard said about any coach, and that from a buckeye.   We have the right coach for Michigan, be very confident in that.

Jim Harbaugh will return as Michigan coach, committing to ...

Also, it sounds like you all survived the most recent snowmageddon earlier this week.  I have not heard of big problems and hopefully there were none more than minor nuisances.  It's -15, ambient, up here in the hinterlands and that qualifies as pretty cold.  The sky is perfectly clear though as it must be to have that kind of cold and it looks like you folks are chilly downstate.

Lastly, its Friday.  Get through work today, maybe go see some high school hoops tonight or your kids hockey, whatever, but hopefully you have a great weekend brewing.

Stay warm and Go Blue!

That is an awesome gif and how I felt after hours of shoveling the snow.

Having said that the thread title reminded me of the creepy LSU recruit videos with Kelly's antics and how utterly normal JH appears when contrasted with THIS GUY.

Edit:  Everytime I see this video the cringe factor hits new bottoms of the barrel.  The lighting on Kelly's face, the slow motion, the butt bumping...you could have a 16-week college course that analyzes the multidimensional creep-factor here.

Yeah, I'll join the bang. I'm glad he's back. Seems a little awkward right now, but that will pass. I'm glad for the coaching stability. Now he just needs to find a DC

Happy Friday, everyone!

There will be more than enough opportunities for him to demonstrate that he's all in.  Four hour on field practices, recruiting sleep overs, and countless other Harbaugh-only demonstrations of enthusiasm will dispel the issues from the last few weeks.

I listened to one of their next episodes and the hosts said the Boone interview was their most downloaded episode ever.

Those Land Grant Holy Land dudes said the same thing after 42-27 we all listened to them butcher our roster (6th year centenarian Dax Hill) in the midst of a copium binge.

I've always known why certain corners of the media like to rile up our fanbase and/or troll for Harbaugh clicks, but it's fascinating to witness someone experiencing the power trip for the first time.

The Boone interview only confirmed what I already knew implicitly about our coach: he is totally genuine about his intentions and true to himself nature as a fiery competitor. As a coach, he puts team and family first, because team is family.

It's what makes him unique and successful, in the same way that those attributes make Pete Carroll, the oldest NFL coach at 70, successful.

His liberal and quirky ideas are genuine. And when his Seahawk players are asked about him, he's lauded for that approach. I mention Carroll because like Harbaugh he is in a small circle of coaches who have won championships in college and the pros.

Carroll has won 119 games in 9 years in Seattle making him the winningest coach in franchise history after winning five bowl games and the BCS championship at USC. His two brief stints with the Jets and New England in 1994 and 1997-1999 were losing became part of his learning process, not the end of the world as most expected. He just went West and got better just like Harbaugh did.

Even when Jim was still active as a 14-year pro quarterback following his All-American career at Michigan, he worked in the offseason with his brother to help his dad coach. We are lucky to have the Harbaughs because they represent family in every way and are all-in about Michigan and the mission it seeks to project.

“I take him at his word.”  Very well said. For all of his quirks and faults, Jim Harbaugh’s word is his bond.  I am excited that Michigan football is set up very well for the future. Stay warm everybody and Go Blue!

My daughter has a basketball tournament that will take up most of my Saturday night but at least I can sleep in as they are usually in the mornings. Also have to go help my parents shovel their driveway which....should be fun! Go Blue!!

The Boone interview was eye-opening. OP's recommendation to listen is spot-on. There's so much to unpack. Assuming Boone's descriptions and stories are accurate, Coach Harbaugh is a one-of-a-kind, in a very good way. Plus, Boone describes Coach as crazy like a fox with media; some suspected this might be true, but to hear it from Boone is something else.

We’re on our 3rd day of canceled school and we got less than 6 inches of snow. Not sure what’s going on but the kids and teachers are happy. Glad to have a Harbaugh back.  He’s strange but he’s ours!

I'll admit it - I thought he was gone and had settled myself into search mode.  But I also take that man at his word - he's been nothing but truthful and open (more or less) with us over 7 years.  His history is speaking the truth, which is mostly uncomfortable for people to hear.  I've no doubt that he had better words for Warde, his staff, and his team than simply 'I'm done with it now'.  He'll have them back onboard easily.

My hope now is that the passion of 2015-2017 and 2021 is back; and that the doldrums of 2018-2019 and the basement floor of 2020 are gone forever.

He'll find a top notch DC, no worries about that.  But I do hope that he and Gattis continue to evolve the offense.  Can't stand still in modern football!

Stay warm!  Glad our coach stayed and hope is was because the grass is greener at Michigan.  The grass is always greener where you bring your watering can…

Trenched across a reinforced concrete slab this week (inside) and today remove an old patio door and frame in a new swinger in the snow drifts of Saline. I’m ready for the weekend with no M hockey or basketball. So do I skate or xc ski in the fine winter wonderland?

That is more than a little chilly. Keep the water running and the heaters going. Yikes!

Was a balmy 41 yesterday, heading back to minus 4 over the next 48 hours. Having lunch with the young Michigan grad today to discuss possibly relocating him, permanently, from the wilds of midtown Manhattan. This is currently a father's fondest wish.

Jim is a very, very weird guy. Awkward communicator. Unbounded enthusiasm for football and Michigan. Lives and breathes the game, has a great football mind. Honest, almost too honest at times, which turns off those looking for slick, polished answers. If I had to choose between polished "non- answers" versus "whoa, did he really just say that" honesty? I choose the latter. Yep. He's definitely awkward AF, but he's our guy. Love it ...

Jim is now back home, will win many more games for the good guys, hopefully many of the hugely important ones, and we will be just fine. A natty would be awesome!

Hey y'all, I echo: have a great day, great weekend everyone! ?

Go Blue!
