September 1 - Tuesday

Friday Night Lights looks at the first full weekend of games for the ‘M’ commits.

A review of the depth chart is concerning. Remember Kevin Leach?

The Story

I'm tired.

This is literal and metaphorical. Yesterday I got up at eight and shut off at some point between at 3 or 4 AM. I've spent the last two days discussing probably nonexistent NCAA violations instead of putting the final touches—read "writing the last third of"—this year's season preview. In the last year and a half I've spent one summer rolling my eyes and beating back an incredible wave of idiocy about Rich Rodriguez shredding every last bit of information on the West Virginia program and another attempting to explain to pastors and civilians the odd circumstances that led to a 3-9 season at hallowed Michigan. In between, hallowed Michigan went 3-9. None of it was particularly enjoyable.

Unverified Voracity Identifies Self By Name. Brian was doing a lot of radio, even on WJR with Mitch Album, which seems like a total clash of cultures.

QB Preview

Jon Chait guest posts to respond to an attack from from Deadspin related to the Freep Jihad.

September 2 - Wednesday

Tailback Preview

Wednesday Recruitin’. Several secondary official visits scheduled with MD S Josh Furman, PA S Brandon Ifill, and PA CB Cullen Christian all planning to come.

Another rundown of news on the over-working allegations.

Wide Receivers Preview

Brandon Minor is questionable for the opener on Saturday.

Presser notes

Hello: Greg Brown. First commit of the 2011 class. For those keeping score at home, this class would never play for Rodriguez.

September 3 - Thursday

Offensive Line Preview

Brian is on the radio more, WTKA and WRIF.

Secondary Preview

Linebackers Preview

It’s confirmed, Tate will start.Carlos Brown will start at tailback.

September 4 - Friday

Defensive Line Preview

Special Teams Preview

Five Questions, Five Answers: Offense

Was Tate Forcier immaculately conceived or what?

Five Questions, Five Answers: Defensive

Stupid Predictions.

Michigan should win the five games against chumps and pick off two or maybe three of their other seven opponents. 7-5 is the chalky pick. FWIW, I think I've talked myself into the idea that 8-4 is a more likely outcome than 6-6.

A final few preview thoughts

WMU preview.

Finally, three opportunities for me to look stupid Sunday:

  • Michigan executes a running play longer than 58 yards, their long last year. (It was Threet's gallop against Wisconsin.)

  • Tate frustrates the hell out of fans at least once, but excites them more times than that.

  • Hiller gets sacked at least three times.

  • Michigan, 31-21. [Editor's note: put me down for 34-20.]

WMU game column

How dumb does last year's "Rodriguez refuses to adjust his offense" meme look now? Michigan used a thousand different formations, including intermittent deployments of the I-form and a heavy dose of 2 TE ace sets. He's been presented with solutions and has gone in search of the problem.

MDen is becoming a site sponsor.

Unverified Voracity Says There is No Try. Bill Martin says the piped in music great, the place needed to be livened up.

Monday presser notes. Adrian Witty will not be a part of the team for this season.

A short Big 10 recap from last Saturday, including OSU barely beating Navy.

Brian will be on WCBN

September 8 - Tuesday

Blogpoll ballot week 1.

Unverified Vor- GET IN THE CAR IT’S MIKE MARTIN

Tom gives a recap of recruits’ reactions to the WMU game.

Brian’s appearance on Mitch Album went okay, but after he was off the air, he became the example of the type of fans who are “circling the wagons”.

Friday Night Lights

September 9 - Wednesday

Greg Brown’s informative post.

Mailbag. Can Tate avoid hits? Will there be less media availability after the Freep fiasco? Is the stadium louder?

Blogpoll Week 1.

Wednesday Recruitin’. Longtime ‘M’ favorite FL OL Torrian Wilson has committed to Stanford. Also, some juniors mentioned like OH DE Chris Rock, OH S Doren Grand, and OH S Ron Tanner.

WMU - UFR: Defense.

Presser and practice notes. This was a crazy time in ‘M’ history when the media could see parts of practices during game week.

September 10 - Thursday

Brian is on WTKA, right now.

Unverified Voracity Punches Dolphins. A Tate shirt has been created. Seth, can you share an image of this one?

WMU - UFR: Offense

Another crazy thing: an injury report. Junior Hemingway is questionable against ND.

September 11 - Friday

Vicious Electronic Questioning with Brian Stouffer of House Rock Built.

Notre Dame preview.

Finally, opportunities for me to look stupid Sunday:

  • Michigan does some crazy trick play stuff.

  • Michigan tailbacks crack into the secondary lots, with Minor, Shaw, and Brown getting a near-equal distribution of the carries. Quarterback runs are down considerably.

  • Notre Dame gets a bomb to Tate; Floyd is contained by Warren.

  • Brandon Graham gets two sacks.

  • Michigan, 27-23.

Picture Pages: Scraping, Bubbling, except the pictures aren’t there anymore.

Announcement that Phil Brabbs has cancer.

Presser notes

Unverified Voracity on the Ceiling. Brian links to and talks about the exceptional Daily article on Pahokee.

September 15 - Tuesday

Friday Night Lights

Mailbag. When was the last time ‘M’ won, and ND, MSU, and OSU all lost on the same day? (it’s been five years) Thoughts on ND playcalling at the end of the game. Shouldn’t they move Denard to WR now? How about a two QB system? Does Tate’s success affect Devin Gardner’s commitment?

A review of ND’s complaints with the officials.

There is a lot of feedback about the noise level in the stadium, mostly saying yes, it’s louder.

September 16 - Wednesday

Unverified Voracity Jinxes Adrian Peterson

Blogpoll Week 2

Wednesday Recruitin’. NC QB Christian Lemay looks like he got an ‘M’ offer. Could be a big name for 2011.

Notre Dame - UFR: Defense

Presser notes

September 17- Thursday

Unverified Voracity Condones Sea Mammal Abuse. It looks like Jonas Mouton punched an ND player; it’s uncertain whether he did or what the punishment should be if so.

Picture Pages: Scrape Counterpunch.

Notre Dame - UFR: Offense

Weekly injury report

September 18 - Friday

UFR Addenda

Unverified Voracity Won’t Discipline Sheep. Jordan Kovacs has arrived after getting a fair amount of playing time in the second half against ND.

Eastern Michigan preview

Finally, opportunities for me to look stupid Sunday:

  • Justin Turner and Will Campbell get extensive looks.

  • Robinson throws almost as much as Forcier.

  • Minor has a day similar to his outing against ND (15-ish carries, 100-ish yards).

  • Brandon Graham finally gets a sack.

  • Michigan, 48-10.

Picture Pages: Cut it up, Tate

Jonas Mouton has indeed been suspended, by the Big Ten.

Michigan beat EMU 45-17. Highlights

September 20 - Sunday

Video post

Carlos Brown is named co-offensive player of the week

September 21 - Monday

Hello: Carlton Brundige. He will come in 2011 when Darius Morris is a junior.

Unverified Voracity Wins Invincibility. There has been another investigative piece (this time by the Detroit News) about the football coaching staff. Allegedly, a number of the coaches have mortgages with Bill Martin’s bank. This one seems more legitimate.

Eastern Michigan game column. Tate took a bad hit, but popped back up only came away with bruised ribs.

Monday presser. Molk will be out 4-6 weeks.

Blogpoll draft week 3

Brian will be on WTKA from 4-6pm today.

September 22 - Tuesday

Mailbag. Does Brian attend all away games? Why isn’t Will Campbell playing yet? Did Rodriguez steer Beaver and Newsome away from ‘M’ after his rough first year because he knew he needed more polished QBs to come in and start? Who sets the defensive alignments? Carl Grapentine says this is the loudest he’s ever heard the stadium. What’s the new student section thing where they stick out their arms and wag their fingers? What happened to the “old Michigan spelling guy”?

Friday Night Lights

A long piece comparing to Carr to Tressel

September 23 - Wednesday

Blogpoll ballot final week 3.

Wednesday Recruitin’. MN OL Seantrel Henderson is still talking about ‘M’.

Blogpoll Week 3

Eastern Michigan - UFR: Defense

September 24 - Thursday

Picture Pages: Why People Scrape

Unverified Voracity is on to Great Tiger. In order to keep the game time atmosphere high, startling lineups are no longer being announced before the game.

Eastern Michigan - UFR: Offense

September 25 - Friday

Mailbag. Will Rodriguez’s recruiting rankings improve with success? Since it’s likely that the football team will have a great season, did they take too many lower recruits early? Is time of possession going to be a problem for the defense? Has anyone tested whether or not the stadium is louder? How will Gardner fit in next season? With a schematic advantage, does ‘M’ already have enough to beat OSU this season?

BTN has a new streaming option.

TN SF Casey Prather looks very likely to join the 2011 basketball class.

Indiana preview

Finally, opportunities for me to look stupid Sunday:

  • Brandon Graham never sacks anyone again.

  • Michael Shaw cracks 100 yards.

  • People start seriously speculating as to whether a walk-on is a better safety than the Michigan version of Ryan Mundy was.

  • Denard completes 50% of his passes again, except this time the ones that get caught get caught by the right guys.

  • Michigan, 42-17.

Brian will be on WCBN today.

September 30 - Wednesday

Blogpoll week 4

Wednesday Recruitin’. FL S Demar Dorsey is a Florida commit but has interest in ‘M’.

Midweek presser notes. Seems like Justin Turner gets repeated mentions as being “a little ways off”.

Indiana - UFR: Defense

I remember Picture Pages! Those were awesome.

Poor Damn Indiana. This was the Bill Lynch gum-throwing game. The following year in Bloomington was that crazy Denard game. And there have been ever crazier Indiana games since! I think Indiana was the only B1G school to not beat RR. And of all the times for Indiana to be off Michigan's schedule was 2008, the year they probably could have gotten them. All these recent scares...and yet Indiana still hasn't been able to knock off Michigan or OSU since 1988 despite a long list of near-misses & CHAOS. Poor Damn Indiana.
