One Frame At A Time: 2022 Season GIF Tournament - Sweet 16

About Last Week:

Sorry about the brackets. I’ve determined that the best way for me to share my dark mode spreadsheet brackets are is via GIF because while I can bog down all of our browsers with 64 GIFs in 1 OP, I cannot figure out how to include a still picture. So. GIF bracket inception it is. Here’s your results from Round 2:

Yes, that’s a 16 seed in the sweet 16. A very sweet victory indeed! Two other double-digit seeds join it in what is a good mix of chalk and Middle Tennessee State madness. It isn’t all upsets though. Some 1 and 2 seeds (and certain 10 seeds) are absolutely killing it. For example, 1-seed Speed Kills appears to be the favorite after only having 5 votes against it total in both rounds. However, after chalk rocked in its region, it is bound to face some stiffer competition.

We do lose some truly great moments after this round. Michael Barrett stayed but I guess he only gets to be a champion on the field, not in this tournament. Harbaugh’s closeup also fell in a close match, though I think we’ll see plenty of him in comment section memes for years to come. For those of you psychopaths who voted for slow-mo version of Edwards’ OSU TD (which one?), the good news is you can still vote for that play in this round! See? You’re welcome for putting it in twice in the same bracket. For those of you who enjoyed that, Edwards comes through against in the Sweet 16 with two Purdue TDs for you to choose from! Hooray! Alas, my favorite GIF of the bunch is gone as well. I will have to watch Mejorado alone in the dark in times of depression instead of the next round. Sad day.

As always, voting lasts a week-ish depending on whether or not I can realistically post this on a Friday (this week I cannot). Vote for each matchup on the link between the GIFs. I have a real treat planned for sometime in this thing whenever I actually find the time to go all-out like I want to, So keep an eye out for that clickbait in the coming weeks.

For now, a few things I’m adding to help make this more interesting. You’ll notice betting lines below. I’ve never made a bet in my life, but I think they provide good context to how each GIF has performed so far and how that stacks up against it’s competition. Lines are simply votes for minus votes against divided by 2 for the 1st and 2nd round. I’m not vegas so I’m just gonna go by the math. It didn’t fail me in seeding (ha!) so I trust the maths. The lines are not very footbally lines though so take that into consideration.

Also, some further interesting context for where we stand by game. Here’s how many GIFs remain from different games this season:

Ohio State: 4
Purdue: 3
Michigan State: 2
Penn State: 2
Nebraska: 1
Iowa: 1
Illinois: 1
Indiana: 1
Colorado State: 1

Poor damn Rutgers.

Thanks to everyone who has been participating in this tournament! Without you, it would be nothing but me posting a bunch of sad GIFs and narrowing them down on my lonesome. So thanks for helping all of us celebrate this season as a community and enjoy each of these moments. Go blue!

The betting lines are a nice touch. But how is "Ground Assault" a push with "FuckFuckFuckFuck"? A dagger in the heart of OSU should always be a heavy favorite.

I'm predicting an all-Sainristil final: "Speed Kills" vs. "Mike Sainristil, AKA Fat Ann Arbor Squirrel"

Thanks for doing these.
