Hockey Where are they Now?

Submitted by Canadian on

Any hockey fans out there? I am a massive Michigan hockey fan and have often thought to myself "I wonder where, if a all, (insert player name from 3 years ago) is playing now and how are they performing?"

Well I've dug around and have found out that a few guys I thought had retired are sill kicking around. We will start off with the guys that you should know are still out there. I would ask where the goalies are, but then I did some research and it's rather sad:

Al Montoya's playing well as Luongo's backup in Florida
3-1-1, 2.06 GAA, 0.923 SV%

Jared Rutledge is on D-III Aurora, and that whole team seems to be real bad.
1-7-1, 5.02 GAA, 0.884 SV%

Bryan Hogan played 1 game for Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL
0-1-0, 3.04 GAA, .885 SV%

Also, took a look at our two infamous should-have-beens, Jack Campbell and John Gibson:

Jack Campbell's struggling with Texas in the AHL, though he was called up to Dallas for about a week (but didn't see action).
3-4-0, 4.27 GAA, 0.862 SV%

John Gibson played well for San Diego in the AHL, was called up to Anaheim and has been tearing it up. :(
AHL: 7-4-1, 2.63 GAA, 0.917 SV%
NHL: 4-2-1, 1.47 GAA, 0.944 SV%

Patches, Cammalleri, and Larkin are the flag bearers, for sure.

I was hoping LGD would take a step forward after the series he had against Tampa last year, but he seems to have gone the other way.

Thanks for putting this together.

I know Corsi, Fenwick are generally better measurements of contribution to use, but Larkin also leads the NHL right now at +20. Without him playing as well as he has, the Wings would be hovering around last place.

Kampfer and Hunwick might arguably have had a better career than JMFJ? I really thought Johnson was going to have a monster Al Iafrate / Chris Pronger like career, but he just can't seem to put together 2 good seasons in a row. Kampfer meanwhile is turning in a very solid NHL career and Hunwick is a near all-star quality stay at home defenceman

Jason Bacashihua was the other should-have-been goalie(although his jumping to the O was more academic-related), and he's apparently still plugging away in Slovakia.

i lost track of all but a few.  johnny blum, dave richter, dennis may, steve richmond, paul fricker, dave brandenberg, kelly mckrimmon, donnie krussman, teddy spears, etc.  i left and went to grad school and it was before the internet era.

i remember driving late at night in the spring of '85 and i was in utah headed back to socal.  i was listening to a minnesota northstars game and magic (the real magic, dave richter) was playing and so was lundy.   a.m. radio at night goes a long, long way.   was also listening to an LA Lakers game on the next-over a.m. station.   blast from the past...

Thanks for putting this together. I had forgotten about some of these guys and others I figured had finished their careers. I always thought Burlon would be an NHLer. Also, I'm going to assume Pro hockey in Italy is not the best
