Game Day Weather

Aaaaaand we're back!!! Cheers to game days returning! After a fantastic Friday our Saturday weather doesn't look too bad either! We'll have a sun-filled Friday and while Saturday won't be quite as clear, we won't be out in the blazing sun all afternoon and the major heat holds off for another day. High pressure sliding to the east and some extra moisture in the mid levels of the atmosphere will produce some clouds Saturday with the slight chance of a few sprinkles. Most stay dry and if you see rain, it doesn't look to last long. It's a maize out so make sure to grab your yellow to cheer our guys on against East Carolina! Let's go blue!!

Tailgating

Not a bad start to the day at all if you're up and at 'em early setting up the tailgate site! Mid 50s early on with a few clouds here and there - should make for a pretty sunrise! Winds will be light, around 5mph, just enough to rustle the leaves now and then. Our sun coming up at 7am will help to warm us up quickly. We're already into the mid 60s by mid morning, perfect weather for the cinnamon rolls and hot coffee, but also for starting to pop a top! You'll want to also have some water because it'll be a warm afternoon - and no one likes a dehydration headache in the 4th quarter. We'll be into the mid 70s with a few clouds by the time you're getting ready to head into the gates. If you get in early enough you'll be able to get your maize pom-poms!

Kickoff

Some clouds for the start of the game and it's warm out there! We're quickly closing in on 80 degrees with a bit of a stick in the air. Winds have picked up a bit, out of the SW at around 12mph - you'll start to see leaves in constant motion, small branches will begin to move. We could see a few gusts near 20mph (small trees sway a bit) throughout the afternoon.

Halftime

Adding in some more clouds by halftime, but we're still seeing some sunshine. Clouds aren't a bad thing, either, as we're at 80 and adding on a few more degrees throughout the second half. Winds will be steady, out of the SW, near 15mph with those gusts around 20mph. The halftime show is Let's Groove, but friendly reminder if you're grooving over to the concessions grab an extra napkin so there's * zero * chance of you getting ketchup on your maize shirt :D

Post-Game

Low 80s walking out with that first Fall 2023 win! We look to have mostly cloudy skies with our wind starting to lighten, a trend that will continue into the evening. If you're heading out to dinner temps will still be near 80 before falling to the low 70s by 9pm. Continuing the celebration into the late night? Why not, it's a long holiday weekend! You've got extra time to recover :) We'll drop to near 70 by the late night, then to the upper 60s by last call. By then we'll have a lighter SW breeze with clouds starting to clear out. This leads to more sunshine on Sunday with highs near 90! It'll be hot again Monday, Labor Day, but great travel weather as we remain dry. Let's go blue!!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!

Apropos of the Staff Appreciation thread on the board today, let’s tip our collective hats in Christina’s direction. Whether the weather is good or bad, she’s been clueing us in for a decade. Thanks for being part of my game day ritual.

From my vantage point of game day weather I'm going with dark and limited visibility until closer to gametime when I anticipate the skies clearing toward light. I have noticed a pattern. Prescient.
