Myles Pollard Has Committed to Michigan
Remember that cornerback we all saw balling out on Junior Colson’s film last year? That guy is even taller, even ball-outier, and still criminally underrated. He’s also committed to the University of Michigan after taking visits to Auburn and Oklahoma.
Breaking: @wcsRHSfootball corner @me1espollard has committed to @UMichFootball. https://t.co/9HBskAsxXv

We’ll have an informative update tomorrow.
For now please enjoy this video of a guy who joins five-star Will Johnson and fellow Tennessean Kody Jones in a class that has more than two touted cornerbacks in it for the first time since Marlin-Curry-Combs.
Good pickup, we’re going to need him the way OSU is stockpiling WRs
OSU receivers? Gonna need him because we've seen how our currently rostered corners look against MSU receivers.
Why did you even join a Michigan sports blog? Do you have anything positive to say?
It's about time you got the front-page story posted!!!
Just kidding, Seth!
Congrats Myles! Go Blue!
There is no content after the jump except me feeling content.
You’d better have the content’s consent.
Has anyone seen enough of Kody Jones to compare Pollard to Jones?
Jones is 3-4 inches shorter than Pollard and Johnson so in theory he would fit as more of the slot corner of this trio. I would guess Pollard is the most likely of the group to move to safety IF we were to flip Domani Jackson or add another top-tier corner down the road. (More a comment on his positional flexibility than Myles’ cover abilities.)
Jones is a Nickel, CB/S.
Pollard is a 6'2" corner with arms long enough to make Don Brown's mustache perk up and do a dance.
A nice pickup and definitely someone due for a bump up; as with all evaluations from last year I think guys are starting to hit the camps and agencies are starting to see them more and you'll see some rattling around.
His size is appealing because it feels attached to decent athleticism. Not a perfect analogy but sort of a Gemon Green type, which is exactly the type of guy you want in the #2 corner role.
You are spot on re: the rankings this year with regard to camps IMO. Myles is already a 4-star to Rivals — must have camped with them - while Loveland is already a 4 to 247.
That first hit was nasty. Gotta love his length and run support. I think his biggest question is sudden change of direction quickness. Seems like a guy that would matchup really well against a Nico Collins type receiver, but might struggle against the shifty slot types. His length will be an asset in the red zone for sure.
Exciting pickup. The staff clearly wanted him bad. Seems like their scouting is ahead of the recruiting sites right now. I'll be curious to see where he is ranked by the time he signs.
This is a great pickup and I love that the staff is keeping up connections at Ravenwood as that school is going to keep producing good football players for the foreseeable future.
Go Blue!
a class that has more than two touted cornerbacks in it for the first time since Marlin-Curry-Combs.
Not a joke... who are Marlin, Curry, and Combs?
Marlin Jackson, Markus Curry, and Zia Combs if I have it right.
I thought Marlin Jackson for a second but figured that would be wrong since Curry and Combs were almost certainly last names and Marlin is his first name. Also, I don't remember the names Markus Curry or Zia Combs at all.
Marlin Jackson, Markus Curry and Zia Combs. But that is incorrect because Combs was the year before i believe.
But that 2001 class was amazing. Three 5 stars. Marlin Jackson, Kelly Baraka and Earnest Shazor. Was extremely deep. 8 ish in the top 100. Best class after the 1998 class IMO.
Kelly Baraka. Dude beat Charles Rogers in the 100 meters in high school, so he had legit NFL speed. The difference between those two guys is that Baraka got kicked off the team for repeated failed marijuana tests, while Charles was able to keep playing.
Wait weed is legal
Yeah but this is a Michigan football forum so we're obviously talking about stuff than happened decades ago.
2001 recruit Marlin Jackson
2000 recruits Markus Curry and Zia Combs
Curry and Jackson are 2001s--I botched Zia Combs. He redshirted but the three were all really close and roomed together and I forgot Combs got there first. I think they're also all the same age too.
So damn. I could go with 1999 but Brandon Williams was a who-dat speedster out of Nebraska. That's really our only option then unless we want to go with 2013, which was:
- Jourdan Lewis: 4.40
- Ross Douglas: 3.90
- Channing Stribling: 3.69
- Reon Dawson: 3.54
Which if you squint and call Ross Taylor-Douglas a Kody Jones this is sorta similar, but not very.
Got'damn, I'm old.
Marlin Curry-Combs sounds like an Iowa wide receiver.
Welcome aboard, Mr. Pollard.
I love to hear it. I just hope we can develop & retain him/them better than Sims & Perry. I mean we still had Seldon & DGW in 2020, not to mention five borderline top 300 safeties in two years. Sorry, I'm jaded. We did a lot of complaining about o-line for a while then we landed Jones, Rumler, Keegan, & Barnhart. Then we complained about DT for a while and we landed Mazi, Hinton, Benny, & Rooks. We complained about QB and landed McNamara & McCarthy. I'm told to be patient, but I'd like to see it pan out prior to getting excited.
Entirely this.
when is the last time Michigan surprised everyone with a...never mind. The answer is always at least 10 years ago.
Many whiners here have been down on our recruiting class, but save for NT, I think the new coaches are nailing it, and it hasn't been evident yet because the rankings are off. I think if we land Nolens then only then will the naysayers see that this is a very good class.
Now we have to land LB Cheeks. And am curious to know who is the plan B at NT in the event Nolen goes south.
These rankings at this level seem so arbitrary. It’s virtually indistinguishable between a high 3* and low 4*…either way, kid is a baller and glad to have him. With him and Johnson we’ll shore up a position of major concern.
Exactly...once you get out of the top 100. It's really just about coaching and development.
The top-100s aren’t gimmes. The scouts rate based on NFL potential, which has very exacting body type requirements. That is why more 5-stars make the NFL, sure, but they aren’t necessarily better college players. . . unless you have an army of them to burn through, like Alabama and Ohio State. If your system uses “tweener” types, your best candidates will often be low four-stars.
Michigan can’t even pretend to recruit on the same level, so they have to moneyball their choices quite a bit. Unfortunately, CB is a position where athleticism is not optional. At least these coaches seem to get that.
Based on that first picture, I'm sure Red Grange is worried about that guy coming up in run support.
Oh, and 23 skidoo!
5 fakes out of 5
MGoMessageBoard always tells me we can’t recruit. Especially after the weird Covid year.
Nice to get a guy who chose us over Oklahoma and Auburn vs someone who chose us over Utah or Boston College.
He looks good on his film.
With that said, I'll go ahead and ask the big question: can he run with OSUs receivers?
