Exit Christian Turner
Junior running back Christian Turner took to Twitter this afternoon to announce he's putting his name into the transfer portal:

Turner's departure doesn't come as a huge surprise. After totaling a combined 64 rushes over his first two years, he didn't see any action at running back in 2020 and appeared in only one game on special teams.
While Turner had a couple promising flashes early in his time at Michigan, he ended up stuck behind Zach Charbonnet, Hassan Haskins, and Tru Wilson on the depth chart last year, then Charbonnet, Haskins, Blake Corum, and Chris Evans this season. With only Evans slated to depart and two freshman backs signed for 2021, including All-American Donovan Edwards, it's unlikely Turner was going to see much more time on the field.
The Georgia native was a well-regarded three-star recruit whose decision came down to Michigan and Notre Dame. He should pick up a decent amount of interest in the portal. He's the third Wolverine to announce the intention to transfer in the last couple weeks, joining center Zach Carpenter and punter Will Hart.
There is no content after the jump.

He played on special teams? Thought he opted out this season.

He opted back in right before the season

Somebody forgot to tell Harbaugh.

Good luck young man. You were in the one group that had a talent overload. May we back fill your spot with a DT or CB.

Talent overload at RB? Is there a single nfl caliber rb on this roster ?

I really like this kids game, I do believe he can transfer into a P5 school and be successful. I think due to his fumbling issues early in his career and the amount of competition in the running backs room at Michigan, it was hard to reclaim any of the time he lost if/when he was able to improve on his ball security. That said, he's a strong and instinctive runner with good burst and top end speed. If he has the ball security issues resolved, I do believe this kid is going to do some things somewhere.
Best of luck Christian! I wish you success on the second half of your college career.

He would be a good pick up for a team in need.

Very well put. I also believe he will find success somewhere else. Good luck Christian and thank you for your hard work for Michigan!

Wish him luck. I do think he'll find a nice landing place and will see playing time; hopefully his fumbling issues are behind him because he's definitely got talent.

__________ departure doesn't come as a huge surprise.
How many more times are we going to hear this?
Another day, 3 more exits.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
Well, the whole team could transfer, and it wouldn't come as a huge surprise, so...
December 19th, 2020 at 8:17 PM ^
Good luck.

Evans is slated to depart? Still has the year of eligibility since this year didnt count so he is entering draft ir transfer portal?
December 19th, 2020 at 10:19 PM ^
I believe he accepted an invite to the senior bowl. I am wrong often, though.

I can’t speak to the other facets of your life, but you’re correct here!
December 20th, 2020 at 7:30 AM ^
Does senior bowl mean you can no longer come back, or is it more of an informal rule?
December 19th, 2020 at 9:18 PM ^
Fucking thanks, Jim.
December 19th, 2020 at 10:39 PM ^
He’s in a loaded group of players. He’s not going to see the field with the talent we have at RB.

I think Turner is good, and the program has had a lot of attrition because of Harbaugh, but this one makes sense (unfortunately).

What a difference an inch makes: things might have been really different if he'd stayed in bounds on his "touchdown" run at the Citrus Bowl. Might have turned that game around; his career around; etc. etc.

1 game and 1 terrible momentum killing roughing the punter. Sucks because he opted back in to play.
Looked great as a Frosh but had some fumbles and could never get momentum.
Guy has skills but change of scenery probably best move.

I was watching the 2018 Peach Bowl and wonder what may have happened if he had not stepped out of bounds during that first drive and that touchdown would have counted. Who knows? Best of luck to him in the future. Don't ask me why I watched the 2018 Peach Bowl.

It's too bad there aren't trades in CFB so we could trade a couple of our 5-6 RBs for a DT and a CB. Maybe that's how the portal will end up working out.
