Depth Chart By Class Updated
[Eric Upchurch]
An updateable version of this lives under useful stuff in perpetuity, but we bump a new copy of it to the front page annually to remind people it exists. Now it's more important than ever because it actually contains redshirt information, unlike the official roster.
Note that Otis Reese is unsigned and has not made it to the "freshmen" column; all other recruits have, even also-unsigned Ronnie Bell, because he's indicated his recruitment is not open and he would have signed except for his Missouri State basketball LOI.
Positional designations can be fuzzy, of course.

Like "YMRMFSPA" in this site's recruiting profiles, it doesn't say Kaleb Ringer is Sam Sword or even that we think he's a future Sam Sword, just that if he were to reach the outer bounds of reasonable expectation a senior starting Ringer may resemble Sword. For most the original recruiting YMRMFSPA is listed, though I've updated many of the upperclassmen to reflect renewed expectations.

I thought Hawkins was working mostly at Viper (in addition to safety).

Is it normal to have only 1 center on the entire roster? Someone falls on his ankle wrong, and we don't have any other centers who would step in?

They are not "interchangeable." Some guys have the skill set and some don't. It should be noted that Spanellis came in for Kugler in the bowl and, I think, played center. We're more likely to see Runyon at C than Filiaga.

Spanellis was playing center in the bowl game when Kugler went out. He's probably the other option at that position. It's not just Ruiz there.

The 2nd and 3rd columns leave me wondering if we'll be moaning about lack of upper class production in three years. I really think we have to get a raw talent upgrade to do something meaningful about the 1-13 record against OSU.

Only position that concerns me is OT. If Newsome can be even 80%of what he used to be I would be happy. Who are our starters if Newsome does not pan out?

It's 2018 and he's not even practicing for an injury that occured in 2016. Best of luck to him on his recovery and maybe he can make it back to at least play again but hard to see how he's a starter ever again.

In a game of inches, at 80% he would still be unstartable, on skill...

The 2018 team is still super young. Not very many seniors and tons of guys from Harbaugh's big recruting classes just hitting their junior class. Hopefully some of the freshmen and sophomores from this year can make a big jump.

1) QB Kevin Doyle (DC St. Johns) remains unsigned, so shouldn't he technically remain in the "Commits/Awaiting Processing" column?
2) Shouldn't Shea Patterson have an asterisk and be listed in the "Sophomore" column until his waiver comes through? If it doesn't, he will be sitting out a year and would join the same class as Peters.
3) Shouldn't Solomon, Mone, Furbush & JBB be italicized? They started 4, 4, 4 and 7 games, respectively, this season.

Doyle is considered 100%. He called the coaches and told them he is only holding off to sign at the same time his classmates do, they're having some sort of event to do it together. He's not visiting or doing anything to indicate he's not solid.
Patterson will be a junior when he's cleared whether that's this year or next year. He won't be a sophomore next year either way.
Solomon, Mone, Furbush weren't starters so they aren't returning starters.
JBB is a point, though that position was a revolving door

Who's playing the Will? Or, is the NCAA only allowing Don Brown defenses to play 10 players?
