OT: MSU Football or Basketball school?
I know I've been reposting a lot of Rittenberg's things the last couple of days but I think this one is especially interesting. I know most of us would argue that MSU is a basketball school but it's interesting to see their responses to the question. Is this a product of recent success or something else?

Aren't they a farming school?

I always thought they were a safety school.

Little Brother cannot seriously consider themselves a football school unless being a football school is characterized by historic mediocrity. The 60's are over. Deal with it.

Considering our claims to cfb fame

In fairness the 60's weren't all that great for us. It's all about the 70's/80's...and the 00's and the 40's.

the '90s: 1997, 2 Heismans, domination of rivals.

There a Parasite on the ass of the state of Michigan and the whole world would be better without them.

Check grammar

Geographically speaking, southeast Michigan is the hindquarters of the state of Michigan. So technically...would that not make Michigan the snooty zit on the state of Michigan and MSU the bastion of the common, hardworking Volk of the State?

they sure aren't a hockey school, who knows how far they are gonna fall after comley is gone

They are a school I don't care about.
February 24th, 2011 at 9:50 AM ^
Just like I don't care what CMU, Western, U of D etc, etc, etc. are.
February 24th, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
I think maybe we're being too liberal with the use of the word "school" on this thread.
February 24th, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
A place to discuss Michigan or MSU?
February 24th, 2011 at 10:10 AM ^
...the school who replaced the U of Chicago Alex.

It's like getting left by a supermodel and then ending up with Roseanne
February 24th, 2011 at 11:26 AM ^
I'd rather listen to Roseanne than hear "brah" thirty times a minute.

A turf school? You don't have grass in basketball (unless you believe the rumors that Lucious was booted for drug use... zing!), so I guess they'd technically be more of a football school.

MSU is a remora that has attached itself to the underbelly of the University of Michigan. Until it stops defining itself in terms of and comparisons to Michigan, that's all it will ever be.

I agree. I vote for inbred parochialism too!

Tyler's response was unbelievable:
"Top 25 in attendance every year for a mostly average program."
"It's the Detroit media that's always trying to hold us back."
Are you kidding me? How can you say your school is a football school when you admit that it is a "mostly average program?" Not only that, but they have no idea what it means to have the Detroit media hold your program back.
MSU is a basketball program in my mind.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:38 PM ^
a basketball school.
February 24th, 2011 at 3:06 PM ^
Why don't you ask them?
February 24th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
their entire basis for being a football school is beating michigan 3 years in a row. in the 3 worst year of michigan football since the 50s or 60s. the notion that MSU is a football school is insane
plus, we usually think MSU commenters are dumb. and we usually think espn commenters are dumb. so what does that make MSU fans commenting on espn? probably best to walk away from this one
February 25th, 2011 at 12:59 AM ^
MSU fans on ESPN (as in analysts (which is what I think you mean)) don't exist. Their players/alumni that do well are all to stupid to be an analyst.
February 25th, 2011 at 12:06 AM ^
They are a fail school. They can't do anything.
February 25th, 2011 at 1:15 AM ^
But if you still want to go, thats msu.
