Demetrius Hart Decommits
He's pushing you away :(
FL RB Demetrius Hart, the consensus top recruit in Michigan's class of 2011, announced today that he has decommitted, and will instead give his pledge to Alabama. This move has been rumored for a few weeks, and has now come to fruition.
COMMENCE FREAKOUT
This situation sucks, but there are a few things to keep in mind. You can't praise the "OMG SNAKE OILZ!~!~!~!~!~!~!" Rich Rodriguez used to land the likes of Roy Roundtree and Jibreel Black without realizing that sometimes, what goes around comes around.
On the other hand, perhaps the most annoying part is that the school gaining from Michigan's loss is Alabama, where it's likely he'll be kicked off the team in a couple years to make room for the Next Big Thing within a couple years anyway. See - they're already getting started making room for him!
This is unlikely to be the only decommit in this class, even once the coaching situation is settled. For all recruiting classes - but this one especially - it's probably best to wait and see how it all plays out.

Bama is still hell bent on turning him into a CB/return specialist too. I understand why he is leaving an uncertain situation, but I am confused as to why he is going to Alabama with them not wanting him as a RB.

So maybe they tell him he can play RB after all. He commits. Then when they change their minds back again, what can Dee say? He's been known to change his mind too.
Hope he's made the right decision for himself. At least he'll be playing with his best friend and closer to home.

My concern is not so much for us -- although this stinks -- but for Dee Hart. Doesn't this guy have parents? Have they done any research on Nick Satan and Alabama? Are they so dazzled by the dazzling display of snake-oil and fleeting glory that their minds have been overridden (yes). It would be one thing if Dee was going to a program remotely suited to his skills.

Do you really know who our coach next year will be and who will be starting at QB? Everyone assumes the QB to be Denard, and while that may well be the case, I still see the possibility of Gardner as the QB and Denard as the RB. Denard still has a way to go to be a really solid QB - maybe he will get there and maybe he won't, and you can certainly say that about Gardner. I'm just saying there is a lot of uncertainty.
And if it is Harbaugh, known to be an excellent recruiter, Stanford has a highly rated ecruiting class and a few of his recruits might end up here.
We shall soon find out. It's going to be an interesting time between now and signing day.

We would have loved you at RB. But best of luck Dee

cool.

What I wonder is if this says anything about the coaching situation. Has Dee heard solid info the rest of us hasn't that indicates RR is out?
Or did he just watch the game yesterday and - like the rest of us - conclude that RR is now toast?
January 2nd, 2011 at 8:08 PM ^
After yesterday, if you honestly didn't think the head coaching position needed to be seriously revisited, you were watching a different game.

where, praytell, did i say or even remotely insinuate what you suggested?
did you even read my comment or are you just saying something random? because what you said doesn't even make sense in response to what i wrote....

He might have concluded that RR was staying, and he would be stepping into a program that gets blown out against every good team it faces, and is unable to score despite having an explosive and talented offense.
Of course, for him to conclude that would be to assume that because in the past, one could predict the future based on past results, that therefore in the future one will be able to continue predicting future results based on the past. Someone needs to explain the fallacy of induction to this kid, pronto! David Hume snake oil FTW!

Good luck to him.
I still love Michigan football.
..... huh... my medications are working.... cool.
January 2nd, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
but if he gets squeezed out and is looking for another team in a couple years, I hope we aren't in the mix. One kid doesn't keep UM on a string. In fact, Huck Dee Fart.
January 2nd, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
that he'd rather play for a top-echelon team than for a program that's struggling, and he won't be the last.
This won't be the last bad recruiting news for Michigan before signing day. We should all expect a large number of changes between now and then, regardless of whether RR stays or goes.
January 2nd, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
I don't expect any more damaging decommits if Harbaugh is hired. If anything, I think that he might salvage a top 20 or 25 class.

A) Alabama doesn't run a spread.
B) Why in the name of fuck do kids keep pledging to Saban when he is clearly doesn't give a fuck about his players.
C) To all of you who helped to run RR out of town (it's hopeless to say it isn't happening at this point) I hope you enjoy watching this team get the shit kicked out of it for the next three years at least. It'll be just like the last three years. Awesome. Thanks again you mouth breathing, impatient, entitled pieces of shit. Kudos to turning Michigan into Notre Dame.

Although the impatience of much of the fan base is annoying to say the least, RR certainly hasn't done much to help his case, either.

Because he wins, he puts his players in a position to win, Alabama has a winning tradition with a large and loyal fanbase, his players (the ones not r-u-n-o-f-t) improve, and the ones with potential get drafted. The campus and weather are nice and the women are good looking and it is within driving distance for most of them.

Assuming that's an O Brother reference, it is r-u-n-n-o-f-t

If RR is ousted, it won't be because of the fans. It will be tdue to he product that he has put on the field. The "mouth breathers" didn't cause UM to get blown out on Saturday, no matter how much worse it will be to listen to them when they feel vindicated by his departure.
As for Dee Hart, can you honestly expect him to stay committed to a coach whose best-effort preparation and coaching results in a 52-14 blowout. Seriously? Though Saban is still pure evil and Dee would be better off somewhere other than Bama.

If RR was indeed in the process of successfully rebuilding the program (as his defenders claim), then the next three years shouldn't be that bad. If he wasn't, he doesn't deserve to keep his job.

If the next coach is in place by the end of the week, he will have a month to save this class. Anyting can happen,I wouldn't count Michigan out just yet!

A quadruple post? I thought they didn't exist outside of cryptic legends! I guess anything CAN happen; I mean, look, a quadruple post! Looking forward to seeing you in maize and blue, Dee!

I have no idea how that happened, it must be a omen from the recruiting gods.

This was a surprisingly freakout-free thread. Is the board still on lockdown?
January 3rd, 2011 at 12:34 AM ^
After yesterday's game, I think most of us are aware that our program's issues go beyond the tailback position.

i dont think loosing dee hart is gonna make or break anything another 5'9 190lbs RB isnt gonna do anything

after a sophomore-year injury and can't salvage a degree out of his college career.

I had to log in just to neg you for that. That was really uncool.

This kid has been back & forth all year. I wasn't that excited when he "committed" and I'm not too perturbed now that he has "decommitted".
Wake me on signing day after the wheel has stopped spinning. In the meantime, as far as this recruit is concerned, I'm taking a nap.
January 3rd, 2011 at 9:38 AM ^
We were holding him back.
January 3rd, 2011 at 10:16 AM ^
Hope he doesn't mind not playing for a few years. BAMA is stacked at RB. Have fun sitting around for 2 to 3 years. At least at UM, you would have a better chance of starting as a freshman.
January 3rd, 2011 at 11:38 AM ^
If Harbaugh is made head coach there's always the possibility of any of the three current RB commits at Stanford switching to Michigan. Especially Remound Wright. He's a 4-star from Indiana and had Michigan on his list.
