Kevin Sousa Decommits
Though the buzz late last week centered on the commitment status of FL RB Demetrius Hart, it is FL QB Kevin Sousa that withdraws his commitment from the Maize and Blue instead. Sousa has switched his commitment to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Sousa isn't a highly-rated prospect, and would probably have needed a couple years of development before he was ready to play at this level, but that seemed like the perfect fit for Michigan, as Devin Gardner will be just a second-year player next season.
So, if Michigan still intends to bring in a quarterback in the class of 2011, it seems that OH QB Cardale Jones, a product of Cleveland Glenville High School - infamous for its unfriendly stance toward Michigan - is the top prospect on the board, as NC QB Marquise Williams seems set for Virginia Tech. Though there are only three signal-callers on scholarship for next season, I think it's also an option to leave the position unfilled, and pursue top prospects in the 2012 class.

With Denard and Tate on campus for 2 more years and Devin starting his (fingers crossed) redshirt freshman season next year, its not that big of a loss, and I understand the move by Sousa. Best of luck to him.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:14 PM ^
I doubt Tate is here next year! He's been a warrior the past 2 years and will go to lead his own team, IMO!
December 5th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
Why are you shouting!
December 5th, 2010 at 2:45 PM ^
Settle down kids before someone starts crying.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:30 PM ^
Don't speculate on if a player will transfer when you have no idea what the hell you're talking about.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:47 PM ^
Random guy with Tate transferring meme.
December 5th, 2010 at 5:10 PM ^
How did you get 3 points for saying DG will/might start next year? I lost 9 when I said it. Anyways, agreed.
December 5th, 2010 at 5:24 PM ^
he meant that he would be beginning his redshirt freshman year, not necessarily starting.
December 5th, 2010 at 6:30 PM ^
Whining about mgopoints => losing mgopoints.
December 6th, 2010 at 5:20 AM ^
Well I figured that much, lets see if i get any back when it happens.......
December 6th, 2010 at 5:24 AM ^
Oh and thats your cue to take the points because their coming right back.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:29 AM ^
Their?
December 5th, 2010 at 1:59 PM ^
...to Sousa. Seems like a good sort.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:03 PM ^
Too bad, I was pretty excited about him. I totally get why he would want to go elsewhere, though. Good luck to him.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:05 PM ^
I was a sucker for the Sousa puns
December 5th, 2010 at 3:09 PM ^
Me too. I'm not football savvy enough to evaluate his film. But as a former tubist I was definitely a little excited about having a Sousa at QB.
December 5th, 2010 at 3:42 PM ^
But I'm a dork.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
Best of luck to Kevin at Wake Forest!!!! Now this clears up another possible committment on the defense side.
GO BLUE!!!!!!!
December 5th, 2010 at 2:17 PM ^
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
December 5th, 2010 at 2:55 PM ^
So a kid decides he doesn't want to come to UofM and you think that is a positive? Wow. Obviously the coaches think we need a QB in this class and now there is almost noone left who can take that place unless we can grab Birdgewater from Miami (YTM)... this is not a good thing.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:13 PM ^
Your indecisiveness cost us another one.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:31 PM ^
This one was on the fence long before the angst over DB's end of the year evaluation.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
How have you not been banned. The shit you say is off target
December 5th, 2010 at 2:43 PM ^
What the hell is off target about what he said? I guess anyone who disagrees with you should be banned?

So your saying Brandon should have spoke up,Got ya.

Assuming he is keeping RR, can you name me 1 good reason why DB should wait? I can come up with about 1.5 million rea$on$ to wait until after Jan 1st to fire him, but not one reason to wait if he's sticking around.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:37 PM ^
Saying you are keeping RR does not stop the negative recruiting. Recruits want a coach who is here for the long term, by addressing the controversy DB would make it look like he is giving RR one more shot.
This is the situation a team is in after 3 disappointing years. It is what it is, and no press conference can mollify it.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:43 PM ^
This still doesn't justify waiting. Whether he holds a press conference on Jan 2 or yesterday, it will still come off as "this is your one last shot".
December 5th, 2010 at 4:06 PM ^
It doesn't matter, thank you for agreeing with me.
I can flip it around on you, name one reason he needs to announce right now, since we just agreed that it doesn't matter.
DB has a plan, and he is sticking to it. What is so hard to understand about that?
December 5th, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
...1. Waiting hurts recruiting (see de-commits), 2. Leaves your current coach twisting in the wind causing "Groban moments" which embarrass the program. 3. Hurts your recruitment of a new coach...who wants to play for an AD that allows his HC to be treated this way? 4. Hurts the morale of your current team, leaving them to wonder about their own futures. How many reasons do you need?
December 5th, 2010 at 4:39 PM ^
Try to keep up here, I know reading is difficult.
We just agreed that:
"Saying you are keeping RR does not stop the negative recruiting. Recruits want a coach who is here for the long term, by addressing the controversy DB would make it look like he is giving RR one more shot.
This is the situation a team is in after 3 disappointing years. It is what it is, and no press conference can mollify it."
So no, holding a press conference tomorrow doesn't do anything to save recruiting, and I think everyone on both sides agrees that there will be no "recruiting of a new coach." Its either Rodriguez or Harbaugh.
And as for "Groban moments," thats only embarrassing because of the vindictive local media that partly caused this whole situation in the first place.
December 5th, 2010 at 6:27 PM ^
....but I can read just fine. Notice that I was not the one that agreed with you previously. I actually don't agree on the previous point regarding recruiting, and believe that the coaching uncertainty hurts recruiting a great deal....especially with those looking to enroll early. IMO, the Groban moment is the result of DB letting this go on too long. He needs to make the call and move on...IMO.
Go Blue.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:06 PM ^
I believe Rodriguez deserves another year, but for the sake of argument I will take your side and say ok, we need to move on. What then does Michigan gain by firing Rodriguez right now? Absolutely nothing, and they stand to lose everything.
The only replacement that you can even make an argument for as a possible upgrade is Harbaugh. It is not believed that he would leave before their BCS bowl game, so announcing that you are firing Rodriguez now creates the most possible uncertainty and recruting turmoil of any option. No matter what, if he was fired there would be a lot of turnover, but if there was a prolonged search it would only be worse.
The fact that you are using the "Groban moment" as part of your argument is just embarrassing, and leads me to believe that you are the type of person who likes to make snap judgments relying on what the public perception is without knowing the actual facts of the situation.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:12 AM ^
..I bring up the Groban moment to illustrate the effect that delaying the decision is having on a once proud and successful man. Although I don't like him as a coach, I don't think anyone should have to go through what he is going through right now, and DB is letting it happen. You don't know me, but it's funny that you make a "snap judgement" on how I supposedly make "snap judgements". Nice......
December 11th, 2010 at 6:36 PM ^
There is no "Groban moment." Who the heck cares what songs the coach is playing at an emotional team event. The fact that the media jumps on these things, and people like you accept their narrative is ridiculous.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:43 PM ^
This still doesn't justify waiting. Whether he holds a press conference on Jan 2 or yesterday, it will still come off as "this is your one last shot".

You can say that again.
December 5th, 2010 at 2:38 PM ^
December 5th, 2010 at 2:57 PM ^
because David Brandon has said all year what his process will be. He didn't change it at 5-0, his isn't changing it now b/c some in the Detroit media think he should, nor because some rabid alumni think he should, nor because some recruits think he should and, most definitely, not because you think he should.
Good luck to Kevin, seems like ma great player and would expect him to do some great things at Wake.
December 5th, 2010 at 4:07 PM ^
...wasn't a good reason when I was a kid, and still isn't. DB can profess his process all he wants...doesn't make it right. How many de-commits does it take to prove DB's timing is off. He's over his head and his inexperience is showing.
December 5th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
I would like to know what inexperience you are referring to...

December 5th, 2010 at 10:45 PM ^
I hear a lot of talk on how former players/ rich boosters are wanting RR fired. If he is going to try to keep them happy and giving their money he is not going to tell them no you are stupid. Maybe he is telling them he is going to be looking into it very hard.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:00 AM ^
If Michigan were to fire RR they would have to give him a written notice 30 days prior to termination. This means that if they wanted they could give him the notice now, start a coaching search, and not have to pay him the extra $1.5 million since his termination would come after January1st. This is per MVictors: http://mvictors.com/?p=9046
I think it is quite apparent that DB believes in fact based management, as every good CEO should, and part of that is being patient enough to wait for all of the facts to be available before making a decision. Obviously fans in general lack patience but I for one am glad that our AD doesn't.
December 6th, 2010 at 2:09 AM ^
if we need to blame something, can we *please* chalk this one up to the josh groban stunt? what 18 year old kid who thinks he's a star wants to tell his friends he's going to go play on a team that borrows cds from their cat lady aunts for a little quality time holding hands?
nb: i recognize this is stupid, but so are most 18 year olds...
December 5th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
Now I don't have to worry about remembering how to say his last name. That was a problem for me.
