Man vs. Food at Blimpy Burger Today
Adam from Man vs. Food was at Blimpy Burger today and filmed a portion of an Ann Arbor episode. Did anyone go? I am wonder if he made an attempt at the record. Ever since I downed a 2 lb cheese burger with a plate full of fries at the Arena in 15 minutes, I have been dreaming about making an attempt at the record which is at 4.8 lbs at the moment.

actually he is in town to try the tios 5 pound nacho challenge, some guy I know who works there is challenging him
September 7th, 2010 at 4:28 PM ^
They're doing this Tios challenge over the Blimpy patty record? Dumb.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:31 PM ^
I know right, tios isnt even that good, everything is way too greasy and I feel like shit every time I eat there. Now he could have done the bella italia meat lovers pizza challenge. its off of eisenhower across the road from the new whole foods. its a 30 inch meat lovers pizza, if you and a friend finish it in a hour you get $100 each

Unlike any other mexican food?
September 7th, 2010 at 8:24 PM ^
el camino real over by bally's and the mall is amazing, way better quality
September 8th, 2010 at 10:32 AM ^
They have changed restaurants in that place so many times....
September 7th, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
Taco Bell and Tios are poor representations of Mexican food - try some authentic stuff. I'm surprised at how many people don't know what an authentic taco is.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:47 PM ^
I think there was a pizza place with a very similar challenge in season 1. Adam's partner ended up throwing up before they finished the pizza, iirc.
I love Mexican food, but Tios is horrendous. Wish they would have showcased a better restaurant.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
I agree. The only thing I can stand to eat their is the wet burrito, which is decent at best.
September 7th, 2010 at 7:34 PM ^
adam polished off his half of the pie, but his partner had issues that he left on the ground just outside of the store.
on Tios: thanks for the warning.

Guy Fieri of Diners Drive-ins and Dives was at Blimpy a couple (?) years ago and watched a girl on the women's club ice hockey team down a quint or something. Pretty impressive.
September 7th, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
And she ate 21 patties in some sort of combination of quints and quads. Then she went to hockey practice.
Yeah, he missed the boat by not doing a challenge at Blimpy's. But at least he went to Blimpy's.

If you're going to do an eating contest and not try the most glorious.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:15 PM ^
Only fitting. They already did a Columbus episode, and I believe that was during the football season as well.
Might even say it's about time.

Does anyone know what other local joints they are going to be stopping at for the show?
September 7th, 2010 at 11:09 PM ^
they were at Maize and Blue yesterday, and Blimpy today. Tomorrow night they will be at Tio's, but it is by invite only: you would have had to donate to Tio's new building to attend.

Maize and Blue = Delicious
September 7th, 2010 at 4:18 PM ^
I once had a quint with bacon and a fried egg. Then I had a triple to top it off. I'm operating under the assumption that that meal took a fortnight off my life expectancy. FYI I'm about as fat as Davion Rogers.

Are you as angry as he is?
September 7th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
No, angry like this:

Skinny guys like us are the best eaters. Just look at Joey Chestnut and Kobyashi.
September 7th, 2010 at 6:12 PM ^
Don't forget the 105-lb woman who beat Joey Chestnutt and everyone else yesterday by scarfing down 5 lbs of chicken wings in record time.
September 7th, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^
used to be really fat, and would always come in the top three in any of the eating events that he did. there was a study that stated fat got in the way of competative eaters, so he droppped the lbs -- the rest is history.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:27 PM ^
That dude is a fat mother fucker. I mean, he seems like a nice guy and all, but he looks uncomfortable as hell all the time. Like a sausage in a casing. Someone get that guy a moo moo or a cape or something. T-shirts just aren't doing it for him anymore.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:33 PM ^
At the beginning of the show, he really didn't look that bad, but I think all of this massive easting really been taking a major hit on his health. He looks terrible this year, tired, fat, and he sweats way more than he used to, which is saying something.
September 7th, 2010 at 6:09 PM ^
Agreed. During season 1 I used to say how surprised I was that he wasn't fatter...not anymore.

less healthy every episode, its like supersize me but drawn out over years. I like the show, but they should have a couple of different hosts or something to spread around the calories.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:40 PM ^
That or get the man with Barwis. He would be a beast after a short while with him. That may end his eating career as he knows it though.

You, my friend, are amazing. Adam would not dare fuck with you. That is a ton of food and I applaud you. However, my beer intake would have been much higher than all of that.
September 7th, 2010 at 4:57 PM ^
One question: How old are you?
September 7th, 2010 at 6:16 PM ^
If you're over 28, I'd give some props. Under 25, and you're...normal.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:18 PM ^
close, I am 27.
September 8th, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
But Looking at it on the the mobile, it doesn't show the avatars, which I'm discovering is an amazing way to identify people quickly. (That, and lining up the posts there is still a bit of a challenge).
September 7th, 2010 at 5:05 PM ^
hell. but really, that's where I'd be if I even ate half of that
September 7th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
Love the show. Was surprised he'd never been to Ann Arbor. Hopefully he likes it more then he did the armpit of America, Columbus.
September 7th, 2010 at 8:11 PM ^
is a buckeye fan.
September 7th, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
The dude is from Georgia, IIRC. He sucked up pretty hard to the Buckeyes when he was in Columbus, but I'm gambling he'll do the same for us. Plus, if we manage to get him to say Ann Arbor is better since this episode is (obviously) later, I'd say that's worth it.

I ran into Adam last night at Charley's. After a few drinks my friends were sitting at his table and he was very friendly. Sadly I had to leave early because I had an 8:30 this morning but word is that he accompanied my friends (it was somebody's 21st) to Rick's.

"Yup, I'm done with college bars. Too much hassle, and too many little boys who can't handle their liquor or big mouths. Over it. SMH!"
September 8th, 2010 at 8:12 AM ^
Understandable if he did go to Charley's and Rick's. Should've went to Ashley's!

IMO the best food in Ann Arbor. Had a few rough years after it was taken over by some herb from long island, but one of the original owners rescued the mecca.
Many fond memories there with Dennis, Yankee hat and the Ween-heads. In my four years, I gained several pounds, invented a menu item, and the skills I honed as an undergrad helped me p8wn Michael Phelps.
In 2001, a buddy of mine downed two terriyaki chicken sandwiches, two large cheese fries and two cherry cokes at Red Hot Lovers. Boy was Dennis impressed with that.
Over my freshman and soph years, I perfected my order: BBQ chicken w/ cheddar, slaw, hot peppers, tomato (that's a Soul on a Roll for you amateurs out there), cheese fries and cherry coke, serious dog on the side and a side of pickles. I'll never forget the day they added Soul on a Roll back to the chalkboard after it had been off the menu for many years.
a few years after i graduated, i invented an item: Serious Fries. Cheese fries with slaw, chopped onions, tomatoes, hot peppers, and bbq sauce. Don't knock it till you try it. In the Fall 2008, I was in line behind Michael Phelps, who was having trouble figuring out what to order. I suggested an order of serious fries. Phelps asked what that was, I explained, and he replied: I'm not that serioius, bra." I told him to go back to Prickly Pear.
i haven't been back since RHL became Roy's Red Hots, but it will be the first spot I hit upon my next trip to AA.
