Just watched the finish and was cheering for Will Power because of the name. Had no idea Quinton Washington was on that team.
Go Blue.
So I guess we can look forward to Obi Ezeh (2010 class) being part of the 2019 Cricket World Cup Champions.
Way to go QWash?
Jared Wangler -- 2025 crewman with the America's Cup champion.
Did she ever win Indy? I can't remember. Now she has time to successfully raise her kids.
very possibly someone you would have barely heard of. Always had the best of cars, staff and $$$. Drove defensively, just trying to finish. Has always been the buzz around racing.
undoubtedly crashing more often in the process, you'd have probably said something about crazy women drivers not belonging on the track.
Her average finish was top ten before yesterday. It isn't anymore - now her average finish is outside the top ten. Seems appropriate. I haven't miss a race at the track since the early 80s and I've never seen a driver with so many excuses - in my mind she's just so unlikable, but obvioulsy everybody doen't look at this situation the way I do. Side note: this was the 18th year in a row a woman has driven a car in the Indy 500.
Love this! GO BLUE!!! Glad to see the success.
the high today was 91°; with the single-digit humidity it was actually quite pleasant.
It got so hot in 1953 that a driver died of heat exhaustion when he got out of his car.
For some reason they changed it after the race - during the 1070 broadcast. Some discrepency about the temperature at the track and at the airport. Congrats on 44! This was my 36th consecutive. I had Carpenter, Dixon, Wilson, and Harvey in my money pool - so I thought I was sitting pretty with 4 guys in the top 5 with only a few laps to go. At least I still got money for placing 2nd and 3rd.
Seemed like Kanaan had the best car out there until he had that weird Andretti type set back. A puncture? He had a shot to come back from that. Rossi looked great too. I agree with you though, I thought Carpenter was going to win.
I remember when the Indy 500 was a must watch on Memorial Day weekend. Not so much these days, give me the Monaco Grand Prix and F1 over the IRL or Nascar. Good for Washington tho. What a story he can tell for the rest of his life!
This decade has seen some of the best Indy 500 racing ever.
Yesterday's F1 Monaco race . . . zero passes. Zero.
Yesterday's NASCAR race . . . only one green flag leader.
Time to give Indy another try. The split is long over.
Awesome! I had class with him our freshmen years. He was really quiet but a nice guy
something happened to the driver and Quinton stepped up and drove the car to victory, what a dude!
My father used to race against Roger Penske in sports cars in the '60s.
They laughed when Penske (and Mark Donahue) came out to Indy in the late '60s as just East Coast sports car guys. Now Penske owns all the Indy records, including 17 Indy 500 wins. Nobody else is even close.
Roger is Mr. Perfection. Quinton Washington must be elite to be working for Penske. So, congratulations to him!
on stage at the banquet Monday night.
