OT - What Are You Doing for Mother's Day?
Mates,
So with Mother's Day only hours away you all better have made plans to spoil the mothers in your life. In reality its a combination of wife day, mother's day, and GF day, but with no football to miss. Common gifts include flowers, fancy meals, visits to mom, or in our case, acts of service (clean house for mgowife).
So the simple question is: What are you doing for the mothers in your life?
With a shout out to our lady mgobloggers who are the moms, happy Mother's day, ladies.

I'm feeling the pressure man! I have my mom, my wife and it is also my son's birthday tomorrow.
like a deer in the headlights? you better get cracking.
Deer in the headlights for sure. I'm really not a fan of the cheesy hallmark cards.
might not be all that complicated. let her sleep in and take care of the kids. encourage the kids to maybe draw a picture or do a homemade card for mom (depends on age, of course). heck, maybe its as simple as cleaning out her minivan and getting it washed. lots of stuff you can do that aren't a card if you don't feel like getting one.
I like the car idea. I think I will detail it tomorrow. Thanks man!
speaking only for myself of course, i want my kids around me. on father's day i want nothing more than to have a relaxing day after service, a great meal with the kids all around the table. reading to them. laughing, hopefully one of them plays the piano and we sing a bit. take a nap. a walk maybe with my mogwife. maybe an adult beverage at the end of the day.
the kids will be gone all too soon and those times won't be able to be recreated. or at best it'll get more rare, more complicated.
doesn't get any better than that on mother's day.
My mother-in-law decided on a day trip to Frankenmuth for Mother's Day for everybody, so we're doing that today actually, and of course, I fully intend to be the odd one and order something at least remotely German at the Bavarian Inn rather than the chicken. Having grown up with a German parent and my daily dose of German-ness, I find Frankenmuth kitschy and derivative, but everyone else around me likes it, so I'll play along.
i read: he's going to be drinking german beer.
is my translation close?
like that, completely unintentionally. and EGJ hit it effortlessly.
Not necessarily. When in England or Ireland, a real Guiness is my winner...
completely ruined me for drinking Guinness anywhere outside Ireland and the UK....
Yeah, it is kinda kitschy, but there are some really good places to eat aside form the Bavarian Inn and Zehnders. Look for the random windows that don't seem to have a door. The better local places all seem to enter from the back door. My parents lived just outside Frankenmuth for about 10 years. It is nice, and does have some really good food (and butchers that make some really good sausages). So enjoy your day at the big chicken houses and Bronner's!
Xtra always hits the topical subjects right on cue!!
Well, yesterday, when I got the kid home from school, wifey found the handmade tickets for Mom's Day. He made a bunch of little cards attached to a sheet titled 'Tickets for Mom on Mother's Day'. Things like 'help Mom wash the dishes'; 'Let me watch TV'; 'Let Mom take a nap'... She spent 10 minutes going throught the cards, with their 7 yr old handwriting, almost coming to tears.
I'm fucked.
So what she wants for Mother's Day is an aquarium set for the kid's room. And, despite taking her to Bonefish last night, I'm not sure I have a choice. 'Effing kid!
...and I wonder why I walk 10,000 steps a day and I'm still fat.
could you post a pic of that?
My mother is a huge POS that I haven't had contact with in years. My step-mother is wonderful, but they moved to Arizona 2 years ago, so it's just a phone call. My mother-in-law is pretty great as well, so we'll go visit her after I'm done at 3:30. My wife and I don't have any children, so I always switch shifts on kid-centric holidays so one of my colleagues can be at home getting spoiled. Mother's day, Halloween, Easter, et al. U of M doesn't recognize them as paid holidays, so I'm just doing it to be a nice guy. Hopefully Karma is real.
Totally unexpected, but she lived a full life of 91 years. The annual mother's day card shopping trip was just not normal. Walked right over to the "mom" section and then had to rethink why I was there. So, this is going to take a while to process. I move the last pieces of her furniture out of her apartment on Monday.
I got the wife taken care of as usual and we'll be hosting my mother-in-law for a big spaghetti dinner (her favorite), but I'm sure I'll be thinking about the empty chair at the table.
