Rogue One is my favorite.
I agree, TFA is better than The Last Jedi.
If you could remove the whole casino planet plot line and the cornish game hen Porgs (ever since ROTJ gotta have cuddly creatures for the kids and merchandise sales) I think TLJ is a decent movie.
The thing that kills me about the pursuit of the fleet, which was about the entire movie, was all the First Order ships had to do was go to light speed, get in front of the rebels, and surround them. That is just bad writing. I'm so glad JJ was hired to do episode 9.
The Porgs were in there because there were so many puffins on that island. It was apparently easier to change the puffins into another creature rather than remove them completely.
https://kotaku.com/the-last-jedis-porgs-are-just-puffins-which-the-film…
I'm sure they aren't upset about being able to sell a few million Porg stuffed animals though.
there were plenty of scenes on the island that did not involve porgs or even seeing them.
And the kicker, they invade the Millennium Falcon, nest, give birth and jump in the cockpit to fly around with Chewie. Just plain unnecessary and only there to sell toys.
That last battle scene is pretty good. It was set so nicely to have an epic lightsaber duel between Luke and Kylo, but of course they use some new and dumb force power that allows Luke to simply be there without actually being there. Really bad. When the walkers were firing all blasters on him and then he walked out of there, I was so excited. This is the jedi master we have been waiting for. Right? Then he broke out his lightsaber and I thought "finally, here we go with these two." Oh, he isn't actually there......OK. Then he passes out and dies. Great, Rian Johnson. Really fucking great.
The best part about the movie is the throne room fight, which still could have used some more flare. I was hoping to see Snoke and Kylo fight, but of course not.
Your first paragraph is the PERFECT description I could never put into words myself as to why I left the theater and went home VERY confused after seeing it for the first time on opening night.
I remembered that during the world premiere, people who saw it said that there was one scene that may be the best scene ever in Star Wars.
When Luke did what he did in that scene and before the fight started, I got excited, because I thought it was that scene. So much excitement and build up there, and then it drops right offl. He isn't acutally there, and he just kind of dies.
Now I'm confused about the comments people made the night of the world premiere. Did they watch a different movie?
must work a joke into every scene. I really like the Infinity Gauntlet but the jokes slowed it down at times. And now they are doing the exact same shit to the Star Wars universe.
think that there are far too many jokes in every Marvel movie, but I thought on balance, the jokes in Infinity War were funny. Typically I struggle to chuckle because I feel like they want me to laugh but in IW a lot of it (The Guardian stuff, in particular) was genuinely funny. The problem is that they are so frequent that the movie is basically a comedy with action scenes. You can't even suspend reality and take it seriously because it doesn't even take itself seriously.
It's normally a Happy Star Wars Day...
Today is honestly the most depressing May the Fourth ever.
TLJ did not do the job, and the all too recent beauty that was Avengers: Infinity War displayed the correct way to execute the kind of movie in a series.
I'm debating whether I even want to wear a Star Wars shirt like I normally do...almost no excitement for Star Wars at this point and that just makes me sad as an avid fan.
If it's not fun and doesn't make you happy, I say let it go. Sort of like being football fan. When watching the team you've loved starts to frustrate you more than it brings you pleasure, just stop (see: me, 2014). If it was meant to be, you and Star Wars will intersersect again one day and it will be the best make up sex you ever had.
The Circle is complete!
May the 4th be with you
that there are only two and 1/2 good Star Wars Movies, right? Like, the original was good, Empire was great, and Rogue One was ok. The rest have ranged from "Meh" (TLJ) to bad (RotJ) to just awful (pretty much the rest).
Because no Star Wars day would be complete without movie rankings:
Best to Worst:
1. Empire Strikes Back (reason: epic plot and character development)
2. Return of the Jedi (reason: 2nd half of the movie's 3 battles at once)
3. A New Hope (reason: classic and just so well done. good pacing)
4. Rogue One (reason: excellent omage to original trilogy, battle of scarif, vader)
5. Revenge of the Sith (reason: fairly well done anakin turn to dark side)
6. Attack of the Clones (reason: no reason other than those lower on list are worse)
7. Force Awakens (reason: complete copy of A New Hope, no originality)
8. Phantom Menace (reason: need I mention him? Darth Maul keeps this out of last place)
9. Last Jedi (reason: grouchy luke, wtf momments, audience unsatisfied, just bad)
but ESB is definitely the best of the bunch.
1. ESB
2. ANH
3. R1
4. ROTJ
5. TFA
6. TLJ
7. ROTS
8. AOTC
9. PM (introduced jar jar and not nearly enough Darth Maul)
I cannot disagree more strongly with your comment on Revenge of the Sith. I was looking forward to seeing the transformation of Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader more than anything in my childhood, and I thought it was very poor. He basically got tricked into being evil, and not in any clever way whatsoever. That movie should have been the greatest movie of all time, and instead is just okay. I was just so disappointed.
Just logged in and purchased Solo opening night tickets. I went with a theater that has reserved seating so I dont have to wait in line. I'll save that experience for Episode IX
*whispers* I really liked the Last Jedi
liked it, but the movie was just too long.
Note to Marvel and Star Wars. 2 hours. That is what you are working with. 2 hours. Not 2.5 hours. Not 2 hours and 15 minutes. Just 2. Your movie will be much better.
