I'm taking it to mean that one of our two safeties won't be on the team in a year or two.

He'll probably finish his contact and that will be it. I wonder what that says about Diggs and Killebrew though.
The Lions were awful vs. the run after Ngata was out. Unless they think Hurst will be available as a FA, I don't see another Day 1 starter at DL remaining.

Not being allowed to compete in the combine was it for him.
It's hard to fathom this, watching Mo play these past few years.
Lots of questions.

Actually a pretty good D-2 program, says the guy whose local college team is a pretty good D-2 program.

Why? If you are using your first three rounds to build your team for this and subsequent years, why is it unreasonable to have reservations that a guy may never play, or suddenly have to end his career?
I wish he'd have been drafted already, and I hate this for him, but if teams have genuine concerns that he won't be playing for them in the fall, or that he'll play for a while and then suddenly vanish, that's a good reason not to draft him. A later-round pick is less risky, because you are counting on less for that pick.
Put it this way: If the Lions drafted some guy from Southern Texas State that had a 50-50 chance of not playing in the first couple of rounds, we'd roast them if the guy didn't play. And we'd be right.
I don't think Hurst is a 50-50 shot, but if teams do, there's a worry there. The draft is so important, and gets so much publicity, that making that kind of mistake is unacceptable.
So they're cowards, but they're not ignorant cowards.

If it's that serious, he should already be retired from football and collecting his well-earned insurance money.
I have a hard time believing that NFL teams have a better understanding of his condition than the U of M and Harvard, though.

So there's this:
So Mo Hurst, from what I’ve heard from a few guys I spoke with, his tape was a little more up and down than expected. Lot of flashes of brilliance, but had some empty stretches in games, too. Medical isn’t the lone reason for a slide. https://t.co/HzE3ZSmw4l

"A little more up and down than expected."
First of all, that's garbage.
Second of all, even if there was an issue or two, this is not an issue of effort or workrate or ability. Mason Cole has been drafted. Half of OSU's defense has been drafted. MIke Gesicki, who can't block as a TE, has been drafted. It's not like they've got a lot of perfect players to choose from here.
He's not dropping because there's some up and down on film. Medical reasons and cowardice are the only reasons for this slide.
April 28th, 2018 at 12:23 AM ^
Interesting given how he was a PFF fave rave. That feels like desperately casting about for other reasons to justify a decision they wanted to make anyway. If inconsistent tape stopped a D-Lineman from getting drafted high, just about none of them would go until the fourth round.
edit: And this dude is tripling down in his hot takeyness, so while his source may be legit he may just be trying.g to stir the pot. Again, feels like an uncritical swallowing of a story meant to keep teams from.owning up to taking him off for the heart condition .
April 28th, 2018 at 12:43 AM ^
Hello? Have you heard of Malik McDowell who went no 35 to the Seahawks. If anybody took plays off, it was definitely him. And he went that high. So I don't buy the 'little more up and down' as a factor.
