OT: best-selling musical artists by state of birth
Negged in case you were serious.
dead serious. Bone is the greatest rap group of all time. Changed the entire hip-hop game. After Bone hit the scene, everyone was trying to harmonize in their raps even if they couldn't sing.
I didn't neg you. Just the Rascal Flats guy. "First of the Month" or whatever it's called is worthwhile.
Plenty of their other songs are worthwile. If it's your musical preference, no big whoop.
Wiz Khalifa is from North Dakota?
According to wiki, born in Minot, ND.
Always thought he was from Pittsburgh.
Looks like maybe he was a USAF brat.

I thought Wiz representing North Dakota was probably the most random and unexpected out of all 50 options.
I would like to see a Map representing where the artists were 'raised' or the state they were in when they first began making music, it would be a better reflection of the relationship between their 'art' and 'place'
My two oldest kids were born 14 miles from where Tom Jones was born in Mid Glamorgan, South Wales.
There are a ton of very good musicians from Ohio. Best selling is a horrible way to consider talent.

I never understood why people liked them. Also never understood the love for U2 and Dave Matthews Band.
I like the song "Buddy Holly," but that's about it.
I bet Alabama is #2 in Alabama.
But....I thought George Strait hung his hat in Tennessee....?
Although their song "How to Shave My Wife" is kind of strange.
Who the hell is Andy Williams?!
Can't tell if serious...
As bad as it makes me look, I was partially serious.
I went to Spotify and it all clicked and I know plenty of his stuff but a few of thsoe songs I thought were other people...I wasn't sure for a minute. I feel enough shame for the week. I like to think of myself as a relatively big music guy, as well, so I'll work on the classics portion of my knowledge.
However, some of these are hilariously random.
Maine and Howie Day?! You and Canada Collide, Maine.
Shawn Colvin S. Dakota?! Hey guys, 1996 called.
Kansas and....Kansas! Way to be original guys!
Maneheim Steamroller, Nebraska?! I love them mroe than most for Xmas music but that's 25 days of music a year! I know y'all ain't listening to their Fresh Aire stuff.
Very fair...maybe I'm showing my age by knowing who he is. Although he isn't directly from my era, he was someone my parents listended to, even if it wasn't popular amongst my generation when I was a kid.
Also these are artists BORN in each state so the second part of my post isn't that funny. I'm done for the day as I can't read either.
DID YOU KNOW ANDY WILLIAMS WAS BORN IN IOWA!!
So was Captain James T. Kirk
Hey - there are numerous that go the other way for me. Much more recent artists I hadn't heard of. (I won't mention names but hello North Dakota).
Mike Jones.
Actually the map shows is that he's the top-selling artist (nationwide) who is from Minnesota.
Amazing Everclear is the best selling band Oregon's been able to produce. They only have a couple of single platinum albums.
But I was wrong, nice list.
How is Madonna outselling him?
Glenn Frey, one of the two main members of Eagles was born in Detroit.
Yeah, but everyone knows he spent most of his time couped up in the Hotel California, which was located on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.
I'm too lazy to get it right, but there's a larger story here about nature vs. nuture, in which where the two cannot be separated, but nuture is probably more important. Or something like that.
