Predicting the comments on this thread will be super fun and full of new ideas

I just found out in the Sympathy for the Devil thread that our recruiting this year was actually virtually even with OSU's, not light-years behind it, cause our three stars are awesome 3 stars and their four stars are kinda poopy 4 stars to be honest. So practically even-steven.
I'm quite relieved. What fools they and everyone else are for thinking they crushed us this year in recruiting.
February 20th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
Yes, better bring up our 19 person 2018 class, which you said is "fucking TERRIBLE," that also does not account for Shea Patterson in the thread about our 2019 class, which is off to a hot start making 2018 look like an outlier.
February 20th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
And I stand by it. It was fucking terrible.... by Michigan standards. And here's why I dont get overly excited by a "hot start" to 2019. As late as November of 2017 we were ranked 4th in recruiting only to watch it all fall apart at the finish line.

"All fall apart" is hyperbolic.
First of all, we had a top 20-ish recruiting class out of 130 teams in the FBS.
Second, we have 19 signees, which means teams with 20+ are taking advantage of quantity - not necessarily quality - to get ahead or to get close.
Third, we knew from the beginning that this was going to be a small class. If anybody truly thought we would be #4 at the end of this recruiting cycle, then you should ignore that person's thoughts and advice about recruiting rankings in the future. IIRC, this class was originally supposed to have about 11 players.
I don't know why people get their hopes up about recruiting so early, or why people get frustrated so early. Nothing really matters until players sign on the dotted line.

But hey I give up. You guys have me convinced - class was fine. Nothing to be concerned about and no reason to make any changes.
All good gentlemen.

You're being disingenuous and you know it. No one is saying it's a great or even good class by the numbers. What people are debating with is (a) if it's "fucking TERRIBLE" and (b) what the impact of a small class that's not highly touted but fits our depth needs will be (+ Patterson).
If you think this class is the sign of end of times, I mean, of course you're entitled to that opinion, but don't offer it up like disagreement is absurd.

It doesn't fit our depth needs

I agree with the above poster that it doesn't fill our needs on the offensive line, particularly if you believe Hayes will stay at tight end. (I don't believe that.) We have too few linemen.
We have 14 linemen. 13 if Newsome can't play. 12 if Newsome can't play and Hayes is a tight end. 11 if Newsome can't play and Hayes is a tight end and Bushell-Beatty leaves.
+1 to any of those numbers if Calvin Anderson transfers to Michigan, which I find unlikely.
February 20th, 2018 at 5:29 PM ^
Obviously not. I suggest you go do it before making more argumentative posts.

anyone who gets hell bent out of shape because we lost out on 2-3 guys at the end needs to get a life. there are 85 scholarships. i'm not going to cry about missing a couple. besides, how many of our 5 star guys the past decade have panned out? you never know.
it just doesn't matter nearly enough in football. losing out on a couple high recruits at the wire in basketball is a different story.

In before the "Just win baby" comments
February 20th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
According to IMDB, MWSAG didn't really pan out and only scored a 6.2, or 2.2 stars
The Rotten Tomatoes service only rates them at 51%, or 1.1 stars.
Now that's what I would call fucking TERRIBLE.

Watching this movie will evoke emotions somewhere in-between the 2018 Kick-off Classic and the Outback Bowl. But probably closer to the Outback Bowl.
February 20th, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
Saw it on a plane and that's about the only time worth watching. It's not the concept really. It's just kind of a dud. It does have scenes of Ann Arbor in it though.

I thought it was good. It will be interesting to see what the new version is like when they edit Kevin Spacey out with some new actor. /s

When I was a boy my parents had a farm in Laingsburgh, MI. We had 2 cows. Their names were Peanutbutter & Jelly. One fall when the days were getting longer my dad said, "I hope you are in the mood for a lot of sandwiches this winter." I asked why... He said "well, I just slaughtered our cows and it looks like we'll be eating nothing but Peanutbutter and Jelly until spring."
True story...

This doesn't contain Rumler. Biased. Out.
February 20th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
I know guards are not valued as highly as tackles. But i do think Rumler should be top 100. I think the kid is a stud. Ill be curious when the top 250 comes out where they place him. Im guessing around 100-150.

You can spin it anyway you want, but the bottom line is that its light years from being as good as the 2 previous classes. Light years.
February 20th, 2018 at 5:12 PM ^
...the 2018 class become contributors (i.e. either a starter or significant player in the 2 deep)?
I think that changes the assessment of the "disappointing" 2018 class, no?
February 20th, 2018 at 5:38 PM ^
Just playing devil's advocate.
I think people are worrying too much about the 2018 class. A top 15 recruiting class surrounded by Top 5 classes will still be in the national title hunt as long as Don Brown is DC and Harbaugh has a QB. Brown's not going anywhere and I'll take Patterson, Peters and McCaffrey over any trio of QBs in the B1G, including OSU.

Kills to me to see two top-30 in-state kids not even considering Michigan. And worse yet, it's not even because Ohio State swooped in. Don't know how that can be construed as anything other than a major, major failure on the part of the Michigan coaching staff.
