"Well even though we had violent felons on our team it's OK because Grant Perry, Brendan Gibbons, Taylor Lewan amirite?"
Unreal to deflect like that... More of the anything to win mentality...

First off its a rumor grow up second does it really matter? Im not hating on the guy but he is what he is. The only memorbale play he made last season was the TD catch against MSU that didnt count and the ball spin against Florida in the opener

If true that would mean he's quite the acamedician, he's still a true junior who did not enroll early. So it wouldn't be like he's being pushed out. He's not NFL material, so he wouldn't be transfering to highlight himself, I can only surmise there sincerely is a post-grad program he would like to pursue that Michigan doesn't offer. Again, if true.

Seems silly to even suggest that our leading receiver in terms of yards last year would leave. Perry would have to know that he's been passed by Martin (or someone else) in the slot, which I am absolutely sure that Perry doesn't "know" that he's been passed by a redshirt freshman in February.

He doesn't have to graduate in 2.5 years to be a grad transfer. He can visit now even if it takes him until this spring/summer to actually get his undergraduate degree.

Hope you are correct I've been looking for Martin to get some game time this season, Black will be back and DPJ should step up now we just have to be able to get the ball to them

Redshirts are very common. It would be foolish to leave right after redshirt year. You'd then have to sit out yet another year, which would count against your four. I'm not buying it without better sources than "some guy told some guy who told me."

"Heard it straight from a offensive player who starts. I hope it’s not true, you don’t find it odd that he couldn’t get a single snap with the most pathetic pass offense in the country! I do. I hope UmBig can chime in."
Speaking as an ex coach, I can, of course, only speak for myself but I think it applies to almost every level except the top where people are getting paid, therefore having proven themselves to be among the best on the planet. in a down year due to poor play or inexperience, with the later normally leading to the former, things operate in an extremely atypical fashion.
In a decent season where your offense is running smoothly, you can introduce people to game action without fear of negative results. They will happen, of course, but its not as if you expect them. However, in a season such as lasts', I don't think DPJ would have even seen as much play as he did, had it not been for Black's injury. When you are trying to bring along the qb as well as the receivers and both are seeing action for the first time, well all kinds of shit can happen and unless that receiver has proven dependable, it is often not worth the risk. I am sure you will remember the IA game of '16 where a defender simply took the ball out of the hands of all All-Conference receiver who lost focus for just a second. Had this not occurred, UM would have run off 11 straight victories, even with WS's injury. That is the reason I, as a coach, would not play a receiver, or put the ball in anyone's hand I did not have complete confidence in over the course of a season such as the last. As we saw, if bad shit can happen, it will and its best not to tempt fate. I know nothing of Martin's practice performances, but it's safe to assume if he were not in the dog house and had, indeed, given Harbaugh even hope of improved performance, he would have seen the field. But under no circumstances is an unproven player going to be put on the field when the outcome is pretty much a given and it's not a desireable one.

I don't find it odd that he didn't play a single snap. Michigan took 4 WR in last years class. Breaking them up into different classes via redshirt is a good idea so in 4 years you aren't losing your 4 top receivers. I think Nico would have redshirted as well if Black didn't get hurt. Now you have DPJ and Nico both Sophomores next year and Black and Martin as RS Freshman. Obviously it changes the numbers a little bit if someone leaves early but you cannot exactly plan for that when a kid is a freshman.
February 12th, 2018 at 7:59 AM ^
Right. If Collins redshirted and not Martin, you could say the same thing about Collins. If Black redshirted and not Martin, you could say the same thing about Black. What are the chances that you bring in four true freshman wide receivers and ALL of them are needed? Really, we didn't even need Collins to play, IMO. His snaps could have been taken by Harris, Ways, Schoenle, etc. without any difference in the season's outcome.

umbig11 made reference to him potentially not being around next season in a post a while back. It was somewhat cryptic. Interesting. Hope it's not true.
