National Signing Day open thread
Welcome to National Signing Day. It's time for faxes to start rolling in.
Do we keep Otis Reese? That seems to be the only big question of the day.
Here's the official NSD webpage from MGoBlue:

15 isn't too bad but compared to OSU's #1 class it matters somewhat. UM is rarely going to out recruit OSU, only maybe if Meyer leaves, but they have to stay within sight. Being the 15th ranked class compared to OSU's #1 class is probably too far of a spread. UM can beat OSU with consistent top 10(ish) classes.
8-5 isn't going to achieve top 10 classes, especially when opposing coaches are laying it on thick to recruits about UM being overrated, can't beat rivals, etc. A good 2018 season will flip things around fast.

What about a week earlier when that same Stanford team lost to Arizona State 41 - 3 @ home.
Stop looking back 10 years and look at the present. The loss to South Carolina still stings and likely has an impact on recruiting. Not to mention the Penn State, Ohio State and MSU losses.

Has there been any chatter at all about Michigan flipping anyone today a la Karan Higdon a few years ago? I obviously don't expect anyone big to commit today, but wondering if anyone's heard any rumors in the twittersphere.
February 7th, 2018 at 8:57 AM ^
I haven't heard any rumors, but I just noticed that Rivals lists 2018 WR Ty Terrell as having a scholarship offer. I know he took an official visit a couple weeks ago with Reese, but I never saw anything about an offer until now.
I'm wondering if him coming to Michigan might be contingent upon whether Reese signs with Michigan.

I'm not sure if you're a troll or a new user with great sources, but your statement is positive so I like it. I want to believe!

Can't help it.
Was made very sad to find out she was one of the victims.
February 7th, 2018 at 8:52 AM ^
Is it going to matter when we don't have anybody to block for him?

Obviously, but my point is under any of these circumstances (Patterson is/isn't eligible x We sign/don't sign a guy), our QB is doomed without a line. You can have the greatest QB in the world, but it matters none if he has 1 second to throw every play.

but its been about 10 years now that the magic O line sauce has evaded us.
February 7th, 2018 at 9:14 AM ^
...just don't agree with your premise that Michigan doesn't have a line.

One for the mood of the board if we don't get Otis. One if we do.

you got some of that jpeg in your coffee?

It is a tad unreasonable to have a National Signing Day thread on National Signing Day, so it totally makes sense.

February 7th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
This is a very odd and fascinating obsession you have.
February 7th, 2018 at 1:32 PM ^
WTF is your problem? Can someone explain this?
February 7th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
Sure, I can explain it.
His Dudeness thinks I claim to be an "expert", despite being defied at every opportunity to point out where I have claimed to be an expert. Therefore, he has made it his mission to insult me repeatedly and neg every one of my posts for years. I started a NSD thread on a football/recruiting site, and he chose it as a forum to claim that he would rather be banned from posting on MGoBlog than refrain from hurling childish insults at strangers on the internet.
I think that about sums it up.

you might know about that. i mean, didn't you say you weren't a football player but some other non-revenue sport? your coaching resume is what? your success and education in/at football is what? just curious. strong, strong stance and i'm guessing you would only do that because of a spectacular background in the sport and maybe you should be the one to fill that 10th coaching position.

That's a bunch more BS, but...
...my posts and my website aren't based on claiming a plethora of inside sources. I have some contacts, but I'm not Steve Lorenz or TomVH and have never claimed to be.
So you're saying that I'm not something that I never claimed to be. Good for you, I guess.
Just for the record, everyone: My best friend isn't Tyrone Wheatley, and I don't spend all day texting high school recruits. I know it's a total surprise. I guess I'll take that tagline off my website since His Dudeness figured it out.

Ah, yes, I forgot about this crackpot theory of yours that I'm trying to change careers and go into journalism.
It's honestly amazing how many things you've said in this thread that are flat-out false. It's not easy to get this many things wrong in a row.
Happy National Signing Day, His Dudeness! I hope you have a wonderful evening.
February 7th, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
P.S. You know who else hasn't played or coached football at an extremely high level? Steve Lorenz, Sam Webb, Mike Farrell, Tim Sullivan, Ace Anbender, Brian Cook, Brandon Brown... I think Barton Simmons played football in the Ivy League, and Josh Helmholdt was a high school quarterback. Oh, and Tom Luginbill played QB at Georgia Tech.
Lots of people "critique high school kids," and if that's your standard, then you should be unleashing this kind of hate on everyone except Luginbill and maybe Barton Simmons.
Or maybe you should just chill out.

seriously, if you ever talked in real life like you do on the internet you'd get your tail kicked on a daily basis. you'd be unemployable and have no friends - that might actually be your lot in life, i tend to think it is, but maybe you should take stock of these things. and if in fact you are much more gracious in person than you are here, maybe you ought to focus on the 'why' of that, too.
also, magnus doesn't have me 'fooled'. his takes are an easy, pleasant read and he loves michigan football. you didn't even go to my school, so what's the big deal about if magnus tracks some of our recruits and others of interest, what sends you over the edge?
try your college blog. see how that goes and report back to all of us.

2. if you think you are doing 'quite well' in life, you have some significant self-awareness issues. you have a hole in your character the size of the big house.
3. i and one of my brothers are 4th generation michigan grads. two nieces are 5th generation. tell me how michigan isn't my school, what am i missing.
4. i, grandpa/al bundy, challenge you to a charity bout - you can pick the style of fighting: boxing, kick-boxing, MMA, even wrestling or sumo if you'd like, but those last two are probably not very good for any spectators. we have the mgocommunity bet money and the winner gets to choose what charity the money goes to such as the humane society, red cross, whatever. per google, there are at least 3 boxing gyms and 4 MMA gyms in ann arbor. head gear and mouth guards, you can pick how many ounces you want the gloves. i suggest we have the bout on a football weekend, so folks will be around to attend and contribute..
if you win, i'll never comment on another thing you say. in the exceptionally unlikely event that i prevail, you never comment on mgoblog again. period.
i can only assume you fight weekly or even daily, so this challenge from a pathetic old man is possibly too boring for you to take seriously. be that as it may, if you are interested let me know and i can post an OP on the board to guage others interest. i haven't trained seriously in years and although i am at an age that training injuries are a significant possibility, it could be a great goal to have. i would try my best to get in shape.
love,
your pal, grandpa al bundy (picture from decades ago)

That's a long way of saying exactly what I said.
You say you neg all of my "shit posts," but that's false. You neg all my posts, period, whether they're informative or not. A prime example: a National Signing Day open thread.
I'll skip all your other BS until your final sentence.
What world do you live in where saying "keep my name out of your mouth" is an effective or worthwhile form of communication? Do you say that in your daily life? Do you think it's going to work? Do you think I feel threatened by your insistence that I keep your sacred name out of my mouth?
Furthermore, it's the epitome of hypocrisy for you to seek out a post I created, neg it, respond to a poster in which you denigrate me again and again, and then follow that up with a demand that I stop talking about you.
You are truly a fascinating individual, a jewel of the internet.
February 7th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
The fucked up part is, I remember him being a normal poster - long history and lots of points obvly...

February 7th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
If you talk about me, I'm not going to "keep your name out of my mouth." So don't talk about me, and you don't have to worry about it. If you talk about me, then your worst nightmare is going to come true:
*drum roll, please*
Your name is going to be in my mouth.
OH, THE HORROR!

the mods are awfully cool around here. if they 'ripped' your comment, that might say a whole lot more about you than the mods. you probably can't conceive of a time or place where you've been wrong or totally out of line. maybe today you gain that insight. consider it a gift.
February 7th, 2018 at 8:46 AM ^
whether they keep him or not seem fairly irrelevant when compared to how poorly the Oline recruiting has been. It's conceivable that they don't have a single starting level OT on the roster which is alarming. I feel a lot better about prospects at LB/V than I do OT and that's with or without Reese.

Having Runyan step up as a 4th year guy and Newsome back would be huge.
Probably will be: JBB-Bredesen-Ruiz-Onwenu-Ulizio. Hopefully Patterson/McCaffrey/Peters are ready to run for their lives, respectively.
