OT: Blake Griffin Debut vs Grizzlies @ 7:00pm Fox Sports Detroit
Hey look, a topic that's not about MSU.
1.5 games back of 8th place. Clearly this was a trade to win now (and buy SVG some more time). I hope Blake can stay healthy and help the team make a run into one of the lower seeds. I'm skeptical this will work out long term because of his injury history and his salary but I'm pretty excited to tune in tonight.

The trade got my attention. Tuning in for my first game this season.

biggest star on the Pistons since...Isaiah Thomas? Certainly the Bad Boys and the 2004 team had players that the local market loved but not on a national level like Blake. He's a true super-star but man, I can't get past how often he's hurt.

That the bottom one were from for the Kia Optima were really funny. Made me enjoy Griffin more.

If he gets a visit from his future self every 2-4 years in sequential order why does he never know who the 6'10" future guy is?

Healthy Grant Hill IMO

He was washed up, so that doesn't really count, does it?
February 1st, 2018 at 7:45 PM ^
Webber would be in that category too. I wouldn't count guys that were so obviously washed up when they were added to the roster.

I though of Grant Hill, too. But what about Sheed? He could dominate in the post when he wanted to. Maybe didn't want to enough, often settling for taking threes.

I think that's a misleading statistic. What's the average career length of star players?

Seeing Griffin take the floor in Pistons colors. I was high on the team before the holidays but this is the first time I am watching since the calendar turned to 2018. I am optimistic about Blake bringing a lot to the team and hope he can push the Pistons back into the postseason. I love SVG but it has been frustrating to watch this team spin its wheels in the mud the past couple seasons.

Well, to be fair, he's been wearing pistons' colors since he entered the NBA with the Clippers.
But your point is well taken, and I agree.
I'm watching today because of him.
February 1st, 2018 at 7:31 PM ^
From like 2013. I may just wear that now that I am interested in going to a Pistons game this season.

80s I get, but 90s and early 00s? Jordan's Bulls rolled in all six title years and the Kobe-Shaq Lakers didn't struggle to win during their 3-peat. There's often an obvious best team in the NBA. Only age and the "disease of more" eventually topple those teams until a new one replaces them.

He's looking real good on offense, and his defensive/rebounding energy has been good as well. But offensively, he does bring something unique. I think he is going to be fun to watch in the D. Curious if he can also help bring the expected defensive focus that we are accostomed to in Detroit, and if he can help the team acheive this.

My favorite NBA fact:
There have been only three NBA teams to win the championship without having a past, current, or former NBA MVP.
Pistons 1989
Pistons 1990
Pistons 2004
That's Detroit basketball.

When Griffin wins MVP next season.

is their bench. Rolling with a Buycks, Galloway, Kennard, Tolliver, and Moreland right now. No wonder Memphis is on a 16-3 run.
February 1st, 2018 at 7:49 PM ^
yup, exaserbated by reserves Ish and Stanley now in the starting lineup.
we have to remind ourselves this is not the final product. I hope Blake is able to attract some quality free agents down the road
February 1st, 2018 at 8:01 PM ^
As potential FA adds include Rodney Hood (YES PLEASE) Jabari Parker (probably could get him for a song due to his knees) maybe Marcus Smart
February 1st, 2018 at 8:01 PM ^
Agree. This will be helped a lot when Reggie Jackson starts again and Ish goes to the bench. He can be a high usage guy in limited minutes. Will help bring some stability to bench offense.
February 1st, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
Ish would be the only above average bench player in that unit.
February 1st, 2018 at 8:11 PM ^
Me neither.
But their bench is sooo bad right now that adding Ish to the mix is a clear improvement.
Now all we need is to add our Mark Aguire and young Rodman. And Vinnie Johnson. And Chuck Daley.

And they can draft Jordan "The Microwave" Poole

i know he's the sparty announcer, but he does fine with the pistons.

Far more with the Pistons since it's very rare I listen to MSU Football on the radio

Blake has 24 points, 10 boards and 5 assists. WON THE TRADE!
February 1st, 2018 at 9:33 PM ^
Saw the last 5 mins. That's more NBA than I've watched in a LONG time. Maybe Griffen can help make it fun again...??
February 1st, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
it made me take an interest in the NBA for the first time in years....

Already looking forward to that game against the Clips in a week or so. Griffin was not real happy about being traded to put it mildly.
