Yet Another Clueless MSU Alum Commenting on the "Nassar Thing"
Just when I thought things couldn't get worse or somebody couldn't say anything more idiotic, prominent MSU Alum Peter Secchia does his best to prove me wrong. Amongst other things, he wonders "why some of the parents remained quiet". MSU seems to have no shortage of mouths hungry for feet.

That's some nice victim shaming you got going on there, Pete.
January 26th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
Exactly. This is getting more disgusting every day.
January 26th, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
The lack of awareness and lack of common sense starts from the top. The FORMER president of the university sounds like a shameless politician. Coach Izzo, while probably well-meaning, showed an incredible lack of intellect and insight with his comments about Nassar.

"I would say to them that if you don't feel comfortable with your children at Michigan State, take them somewhere else because we've got a long list of people that want to go to Michigan State and there are some wonderful people left," he said. That is Brandonesque.
January 26th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
Give Brandom some credit. He at least only stated this via an e-mail to an individual. This guy does it during a freakin TV interview.
January 26th, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
Could Nassar have just as easily have been associated with Michigan as MSU? Yes. Absolutely. Would he have been enabled at M like he was at MSU? We'll thankfully never know, but it is exactly the leadership Brandon demonstrated that may have allowed it. Thank goodness he's gone.
January 26th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
OMFG.
Secchia's arrogant, dismissive condescension would be bad in any circumstances, but to let it loose at this particular point in time is jaw-dropping.
It appears as though Simon's attitude wasn't a one-off within MSU—It's endemic.

Note that MSU has named their softball field after this great supporter of women in sports.

Lol lines of people are waiting to get into MSU? Ok
January 26th, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
UM does reject a lot of applicants.

These people need to SHUT UP!!!
January 26th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
"There are so many different currents in this river of distraught...it's not a pleasant time... but it can only get better," he said.
It's looking more and more like there's only one fucking current...and it's that your administration and athletic department are heaping piles of shit.
I don't see things getting better anytime soon Pete.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:01 PM ^
I like the comment about a lot of people waiting to get in. Really? Is there really a wait list for MSU???
January 26th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
Michigan has been rejecting more and more applicants every year. They gotta go somewhere
January 26th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
Yes, there's a line to get in.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:07 PM ^
Not only a dumb statement, but ripe with arrogance.

Let's all stand with the students and faculty of Michigan State as they try to cleanse their university of all these monsters running things.
How did we allow so many universities in this country to be infected with such monstrous parasites at the most powerful positions of authority?
January 26th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
You are right, and it begs the question - how many other schools across the country have similar situations, even on a smaller scale? It would be very surprising if more does not come out from other schools. It is my hope that the publicity from this case will encourage more girls/women at other places to come forward
January 26th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
Comparing this to PSU there's interesting similarities and difference to the groups that understand the gravity of the situation vs. those that continue to deny and justify.
PSU
Admin - seemed to get it once it came down, people removed
Alum - Utter denial
Students - Utter denial
MSU
Admin - utter denial
Alum - Utter denial (mostly?)
Students - See it clearly, at least based on the student newspaper

Let's reserve judgement on the students and alumni until after the NCAA investigates. I have a feeling if there is a push for sanctions to be levied against the Athletic Department that impact higher profile sports, the fanbase isn't going to be so remorseful.

Its people like this that only reinforce the stereotype of stupidity at MSU
January 26th, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
MSU has always looked at UM as a bunch of arrogant dicks who think they're just smarter and better than everyone else. Sparta despised Athens for many of the same reasons back in the days of Ancient Greece, and MSU very much sees itself as Sparta while it views UM as Athens.
You know, Athens must've been onto something, because there has to be a reason that the city is still very much alive after 3,000 years. Meanwhile, Sparta is nothing more than a heaping, lifeless pile of rubble. One can only wonder why that is the case....
January 26th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
The real Sparta is actually quite nice. I am assuming you've never been there.
I'm a UMich alum and I have never heard a fellow U of M alum refer to us as Athens. I doubt an MSU fan would either considering they may not even be aware of why they are called Spartans.
They would be wearing red and not green if they were really trying to identify with the Greek Spartans.

loves MSU so much that he is hoping all of 'these currents pass by soon', so he can get back to enjoying his great seats at the Breslin Center.
The lack of empathy toward the victims and their families is startling. Is he really that tone deaf?
