OT: It's official, GoT Season 8 won't air until Summer 2019
HBO executives today confirmed what was leaked out a month ago, that season 8 will not air until the summer of 2019. I have high expectations for the season given who they are bringing back to direct the shows. This will be one of the longest offseasons for any fandom, so if you haven't watched the series or need to catch up, now is the time to do so. It is the greatest show of all time. And to think I thought TWD was better at one point....

Long ago, it was agreed to have a Game Of Thrones "exception" since there was a significant and vocal following on the board, although there have not been very many if any threads about it for ages because of the pace of actual release.
In any case, George R.R. Martin apparently needs another six months to finish a sentence.

Greatest show of all time?? Eh solid 2nd behind The Wire imo.

the Wire, imho.

the wire is still #1 in my opinion.
i do find it funny that i was the outsider 25 years ago in high school for reading all of these sci-fi/fantasy books and now they're being made into the great tv shows of today that are entirely mainstream.

and "Breaking Bad" is solidly #2. GoT is a great show, and the first few seasons was up there, and when the 5th season deviated from the books I was hopeful it would go in a better direction. Unfortunately the last 2 seasons the characters and plots have lost some of their complexity. First 5 seasons definitely in contention with BB and The Wire. Although I'm not sure anything will top The Wire season 4.

Currently watching Mad Men, just started the final season. Draper in the last few seasons has just killed me. He is incredibly tough to watch at times, but that only adds to the level of intrigue you are talking about.

That sucks! Better be two hour episodes each.

On Reddit there are people tied to production saying that each episode will eclipse the 80 minute mark eclipsing the SAG requirement. So essentially they are shooting 6 featured films.

The show is good, but not great. However, HBO has really hosed the progression by demanding the first 5-6 seasons be done so rapidly at the outset (i.e. 1 per year). I'm still looking forward to book 5 (of 7) finally coming out sometime in...2018...2019...before George Martin dies (maybe)? It's only been 7 years since book 4 came out - no rush.

Argh. I meant waiting for book 6 and 7 years since book 5. Replied before I could fix it.
Hanging my head in shame...

Don't joke about Martin dying.
Happened to another one of my favorite authors, Robert Jordan. Dude wrote some great books, about 5 of them, and then decided to turn a series into a career. He died after the 11th book I believe, another author wrote the final 3. Took over 23 years to finish including a 4 year gap between the 13th and 14th books.
Selfish bastard.
