Great hire. Lots of skills and proven success with RBs at BC. Looking forward to seeing how Harbaugh fills out his offensive staff.

The Rock....

You spelled Cincinnati correctly but missed on University. Well done!
Edit: Now that you've changed the spelling I just look like a fool...

Very optimistic about this one!

Looks like he was the RB coach at BC when Don Brown was there. Confirmed DUDE!
January 4th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
One Doak Walker winner (though he only coached him for a year) and I'm assuming he also helped recruit AJ Dillon away from us.
College coach with solid record of development and recruiting. Youngish but seasoned. I like the pick-up

but we need guys who can recruit, wish Wheatley would have stayed
January 4th, 2018 at 11:45 AM ^
From everything I have read on other sites, he is known to be a good recruiter. He has strong ties in Ohio.
January 4th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
sounds good to me, hopefully the changes are not done.
January 4th, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
His bio states he is from Columbus Ohio and was just in Cincinatti so he likely has strong Ohio connections. He played for BC from 2002 - 2005 on the DL and started coaching RB for BC but then moved to coaching D Line and special teams before then moving onto Cincinnati as RB coach. I'm sure if he's a valuable coach and gets along with the staff that he may very well get considered to take over for Mattison once he eventually retires.
January 4th, 2018 at 11:52 AM ^
Cincinnati's top recruiter this year, and BC's top recruiter when he was there... Not gonna be able to get the top kids to those schools, but at least it means he is good at recruiting and probably has connections.

The word I heard, possibly from here was that Wheatley left because he wasn't digging all the extra off season stuff, particularly the satellite camps. Prefers the off season the NFL provides.
January 4th, 2018 at 12:01 PM ^
three co-OCs are two OC's too many. It maybe OK for a year or two, particularly if you were not an OC before. However, if you are a coach and want to become a head coach, and OC is your step to that end, then you sort of need to prove yourself on your own. Fisch and Wheatley moved on for career growth reasons, and that is OK.
January 4th, 2018 at 12:55 PM ^
Both Meyer and Mork have had co-coordinators and it has worked out for them. It can work if handled properly.
Bottom line is that the actual OC has been, is, and will be Harbaugh, If anything he needs to take more control. The ideal of having 2-3 coaches suggest plays then having him decide is probably part of why our offense has looked so disjointed. They can all work on the game plan, but one guy needs to call the plays. And that has to be JH.

Did I miss something? I know rumors have been floating around, but has Jay been officially demoted from coaching RBs?
January 4th, 2018 at 11:46 AM ^
All signs point to him moving back to TE if/when Frey leaves.
January 4th, 2018 at 11:51 AM ^
Right, I mean that's been the scuttlebutt. I guess my point is more that we haven't seen any official reports of other changes within the staff, which makes this report rather odd. I would expect to see news first of the changes to existing staff members, followed by reports of replacements/new additions.
January 4th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
I don't think we're firing anyone and paying buyouts, they're leaving for other opportunities (even if strongly suggested to do so). You don't announce that someone is leaving your program, you let the program they're joining announce it.
January 4th, 2018 at 11:51 AM ^
Frankly, he'll probably end up coaching another position on the team he has no experience with like has happened twice now. Wouldn't surprise me to see him show up as like TE/WR coach now or something like that.
January 4th, 2018 at 11:51 AM ^
Co-TE/Co-WR/Co-Sp. Teams
Lets make sure nobody is a TE run game coordinator.
January 4th, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
So which one is it? You think he's going to coach TE's (which he has), or a position he doesnt have experience at?
At least be consistent in your tired complaint about Jay.
January 4th, 2018 at 3:53 PM ^
And it's not really a tired complaint. Jim clearly likes to plug his son into various caoching positions. Seems like he's done fairly well with TEs and STs from what we can tell, but Jim clearly isn't afraid of putting Jay into a coaching position where he has little to no experience
January 4th, 2018 at 12:17 PM ^
If so, let's give Jay some props. There was improvement among our backs this year.

I'm not sure why the excitement, his guys did have a standout year in 2014 when Jon Hillman went for 860 yards and Tyler Murphy went for 1179 but after that Hillman was the highest single rusher with 542 yards in 2016, no one in 2015 cracked 500 yards. That doesn't exactly instill confidence and just because he comes from BC, he's not arriving with the track record Don Brown did... I guess we'll see what unfolds over the spring and next fall.
January 4th, 2018 at 11:59 AM ^
As Michigan fans know, a lot of that is on the OL. I don't know what their OL was like in those years or if they were rebuilding. Who knows, though. It could be coaching or RB talent.
January 4th, 2018 at 12:15 PM ^
'15 was definitely a down year for the BC rushing attack. The offensive line lost all five starters from 2014. Perhaps it wasn't the RB coaching that limited the rushing production, and the offensive staff was identical to the '14 version. Maybe, just maybe, it was five new starters on the OL.
January 4th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
What kind of recruiter is he? His 247 page shows a bunch of guys, but you're getting different guys at BC and Cinci.
By the way, there is an Al Washington who went to Ohio State and played for the jets. This isn't him.
January 4th, 2018 at 11:48 AM ^
He got Malik Vann to commit to Cinci. I would consider that a huge win for Cinci after looking at his offers.
