Of course I wouldn't retire. But a few extra bedrooms would be nice.

You replying with "one can hope" made my day. Laughing out loud right now.

Just for grins, I go a few days in a row with decaf about every 3rd month. Check blood pressure and mood. Nothing notable, so back to leaded version.

I've never had a drink of coffee in my life. It is possible.

I keep two bottles of water in the fridge overnight. Every morning when I wake up, I guzzle them both to get my hydration going for the day. I've found that I get very lethargic when I get dehydrated, and the cold water helps me wake up.

I drink a sugar-free Monster in the morning and water/sugar free Powerade throughout the day to stay hydrated.

honestly. I have tried vitamin B-12 and the like for energy, but nothing works for me except the chemical-ridden drinks.

suggest far more health benefits than risks (particularly for straight black).
It sounds like your routine needs changing more than your raw coffee intake. Try getting a wakeup routine that dosn't start with coffee, then space a 2nd cup closer to lunch, so no obvious coffee/crash. The routine "addiction" may be causing more problems than the actual product.
I don't like cofree, don't "need it" in the morning either, but still drink some each day.
