OT: Former Michigan QB commit Messiah DeWeaver transferring

Submitted by Magnus on

Former Michigan QB commit Messiah DeWeaver is transferring out of Michigan State. With Brian Lewerke looking like a pretty good starter for 2018 and perhaps beyond, the writing seems to be on the wall.

In case you don't remember, DeWeaver (class of 2016) committed to Brady Hoke but when Jim Harbaugh was hired, the two parties seemed to come to a mutual understanding that Michigan might not be the best fit.

in Lewerke but it seems MSU can develop 2 star QBs into good starting QBs.  I can't wait to see what Harbaugh can do with Brandon, Dylan and our latest addition. Anyway, next season should be much better for us in the QB department.

It should be noted that Rivals/247 took some heat, because Lewerke was a 4* when he committed, then Malzone committed to Michigan as a 3*, and then on the next round of ranking updates they basically flipped Malzone and Lewerke. RCMB had a wonderful and articulate thread on it. /s

You would expect one of our top 3 QBs should do well as our starting QB next season! It sucks that MSU may already be ahead of us in starting QB. Hopefully our D will keep Lewerke in check next season in East Lansing. Brandon Peters 4 star, NATL. RK 34 PRO RK 3 Dylan McCaffery 4 star, NATL. RK 204 PRO RK 6 Shea Patterson 5 star, NATL. RK 3 PRO RK 1

MSU playcalling and weather kept him in check as much as anything in our game. His feet make him dangerous. He has a good arm. He made some bad decisions this year one of which cost the NW game. If he improves his accuracy and decision through experience which is likely he is going to win games for MSU.

Let’s not freak out because Lewerke looked good against Wash St. That was a Rutgers level defense. Very bad. MSU also shut down their ‘air raid’ offense fairly easily. More of an indictment on the PAC12 conference than anything else. We will give him fits next year. Competent QB on our side = win in EL, AGAIN.

I watched a few of their games this season. Minus Falk, 2 WRs, and half of Hercules, that was not the same team. What surprised me was that they didn't run the ball behind their all-American caliber LG, The Continent. Every pass was 0-5 yards within the LOS.

Jack Woltz: Now you listen to me, you smooth-talking son-of-a-bitch, let me lay it on the line for you and your boss, whoever he is! Johnny Fontane will never get that movie! I don't care how many dago guinea wop greaseball goombahs come out of the woodwork!
Tom Hagen: I'm German-Irish.
Jack Woltz: Well, let me tell you something, my kraut-mick friend, I'm gonna make so much trouble for you, you won t know what hit you!

I was flipping through the stations Friday and heard the afternoon show on 730 out of lansing talking about how States quarterback has to be the top QB returning in the B1G next year. Seems legit... messiah must have been listening as well. Trace and Alex ain’t got shit on Brian broken play.

He’s a good QB, but people should not be falling all over themselves to compliment a guy for tearing apart Wazzu given how up and down they were this year (see: game against Cal). I know S&P+ was relatively high on their defense, but that was anomaly for most Leach teams.
