Jacob Eason

Absolutely do not want.

He's not going to come here to sit out a year behind other blue chip recruits. He's probably going to Washington State (his home state) where he is likely to be the starter after he sits out, and then he's in an offense that throws a ton.
I also don't want him on our team. My UGA buddies, a few of whom are close to the football program, all say he's an attitude problem. They say he parties a ton and doesn't work very hard (and his PIC in this is Nauta, according to them), has a major sense of entitlement. I think he would be the 3rd string quarterback here and Harbaugh would not like him at all. I'm good with the arms we have and that we've recruited, and would certainly not want to take a transfer who is a lockerroom cancer - that's a recipe for disaster.

A good fit for Wazoo.
November 9th, 2017 at 9:42 AM ^
Not a good fit for anyone
November 9th, 2017 at 9:39 AM ^
I find it almost unbelievable that Eason and Nauta are both bad guys and "partners in crime," given that they are both former UM recruits that we lost out on. Are your UGA buddies by any chance named "Sour" and "Grapes"?
Irregardless, the coincidence here strains credulity...
November 9th, 2017 at 9:48 AM ^
Nope, they're UGA grads here in Atlanta that are major dawg fans and donors. Go look at Eason and Nauta's instagrams. Not that they're putting cocaine on there, but a lot of party pics, a lot of non-football pics.
I don't think Nauta is a flight risk, but when you talk to UGA fans, most will not talk about Eason and Nauta willingly - they don't like them very much. Also I wouldn't call Eason a recruiting miss, we weren't in on him very strongly. He's certainly not a guy we were ever close to getting. He never visited. I also think most of Nauta's interest was feigned. Certainly not two guys that I am bitter about not being at Michigan today.

Just like all the "insiders" who thought Peters wasn't a good fit, didn't care about the program, and was most likely transferring?
November 9th, 2017 at 10:14 AM ^
Most of this stuff is not coming from 'insiders' and message board jockeys, it's coming from on-campus students telling stories about parties they've seen him at or witnessing him rail caterpillars in a bar bathroom.
November 9th, 2017 at 10:32 AM ^
Ahhhh, OK. So we should trust this information more because it doesn't come from Internet insiders and message board jockeys, but rather from the on-campus student rumor mill at UGA? This changes everything; I am sure the on-campus rumor mill at a massive public university never makes shit up or takes a tiny story with no real meaning and turns it into something massive and "verified".
In other news, Rod Stewart has gallons of semen in his stomach and Richard Gere has gerbils in his anus...

Did you trust posters here when they claimed to have seen Gardner on crutches after the OSU game or Darboh in a boot after a fall practice a few years ago?
The point is that this information is coming from multiple unconfirmed sources, so it's not fact but usually where there is smoke there is fire. Are you using this as an opportunity to interject your version of humor or do you actually think bringing Eason in would help out the '19 QB competition?
November 9th, 2017 at 12:04 PM ^
Believe it or not sometimes random students have a better beat on their fellow classmates then a head football coach. Not saying you're wrong or right, just saying you shouldn't be so quick to discredit it.

I was in Athens last weekend for the South Carolina-Gergia game. I asked a couple bartenders about Eason and the partying, attitude rumors and they just shook their heads and laughed and say "Yeah, it's true."
November 9th, 2017 at 10:57 AM ^
Judge: And where did you come by this evidence, counselor?
Lawyer: Two bartenders I talked to while drunk in a college town during a football game last weekend, your honor.
Judge: GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!!!

I could tell lots of stories about current UM players and their early years on campus while underage.... things I've seen firsthand and things coworkers have seen. On one side of the coin, stories like this from random people on campus can be more revealing that what insiders know. On the other, people grow up... most of us did, didn't we? Maybe Eason is partying it up like Johnny Football. Maybe, he isn't. Maybe he'll grow up and work harder... maybe he won't. All I care about is Michigan. If he wants to come and Harbaugh thinks he can help, cool. If not, cool.
November 9th, 2017 at 12:34 PM ^
Just like the "insiders" who predicted that I wouldn't slice up a banana over a thick layer of peanut butter spread evenly over freshly toasted honey wheat bread this morning and eat it for breakfast like a boss?
November 9th, 2017 at 5:07 PM ^
Some of us here have connections into the AD and those sources were stunned by that nonsense when they learned of it. They immediately and forcefully dismissed it as baseless.
In fact, Rivals lost a lot of people after it was proven false. A lot of backtracking happened but it was too late...

The vast majority of football players at Michigan party pretty frequently. They are also college students, that is a ridiculous thing to get worked up about.
November 9th, 2017 at 10:53 AM ^
There's a difference between going to parties in the offseason and going out after games on Saturday in-season, and partying during the week when the team is in-season. I can tell you definitively that the majority of Michigan players, especially contributors, do not do that. I can also tell you that I know of only one major contributor in recent Michigan history that was super into cocaine.
November 9th, 2017 at 10:59 AM ^
As an ex-student, I can definitely say that many of our players go out after games....don't claim to any proportion, but to act so offended to them using their personal time to unwind is rediculous
November 9th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
The comma in the first sentence notes the delineation between normal college behavior of athletes and Eason's behavior. Smoking during the week is normal. Going out after a game is normal. Getting blackout on a Wednesday in-season is absolutely abnormal for all serious college athletes. I was on the team, I'm aware of normal behavior.

Back in the late 60s, the punter for Michigan - a freshman - used to come over to a house a bunch of us had and drink a mix of beer and Ripple out of 3 pound Maxwell house coffee cans. At the beginning of the season, he was a terrific punter, by the middle a so-so punter and by the end of the year a disaster. But he could sure pound down that beer/Ripple mix. The next year he was gone. The last time I saw him he was pumping gas (shows how long ago that was). Other players we knew did not follow his lead, did not party QUITE so hard, stayed on the team and graduated. So, I agree with the doctor.

Lol I was friends with some athletes when I was in school not that long ago and football players 100% partied after games and would occassionally do things during game weeks, mostly smoke weed.
Also I don't think people should do cocaine but I don't really think someone being addicted cocaine is automatically a reflection of poor character.
November 9th, 2017 at 1:07 PM ^
I said that it was normal to go out after games.
I don't think a coke addiction automatically makes you a bad person, but I do think that you want to avoid having that person on your team.
November 9th, 2017 at 3:50 PM ^
of them at our parties (Saturday nights, as Reader71 notes, they're in bed on curfew at the Campus Inn on Fridays).
I will note that there is a big difference between "going to parties" and "partying". I was always impressed at how they almost always just drank water at parties during the season.
I'm sure many of them partied when I didn't see, and many of them partied during the offseason, but they do a good job in general. Most of them took their football responsibilities seriously, knew how much they had to lose (not worth it) and they didn't want to be throwing up at practice/workouts the next morning!
November 10th, 2017 at 1:48 PM ^
If you do enough of it for long enough, you would be the exception if you don't end up a pretty horrible person.
I worked in the music industry in London for several years and witnessed firsthand what an extended bout of cocaine addiction does to the vast majority of people. Most people I know that quit did so because they couldn't stand hanging out with the people anymore.
November 9th, 2017 at 11:19 AM ^
A really good poster. But you know better than this.
You cannot say that definitely the majority of players don't go out and party. That's laughable. You think on Friday nights they are sitting in their dorms and studying?
They are athletes. They can go out, get whatever chicks they want and probably as much free booze they can handle.

And you don't think those guys do ANYTHING wrong on Friday nights, tucked into their Campus Inn? They are all asleep at 8 PM.
