"Eligible to play" is not equal to "eligible to start, or play, in the 1st half".
Under this language he absolutely could still be forced to sit out the 1st half of the game.

Actually most disqualifications listed in the rulebook don't carry over to the second half. You have to read each rule where the punishment is disqualification and it will state on each rule whether or not the punishment carries over.
In this case there are two different possible fouls: unsportsmanlike conduct, and fighting. In this case technically both could've been charged with either. It CAN be a "fighting" penalty to "talk shit". It also can only be an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to strike another player.
In this case both players were charged with unsportsmanlike conduct rather than fighting. Unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for their actions don't carry over to the second half.
It could be argued that Metellus should've been given unsportsmanlike conduct, like he was, for getting in Greenes face after the punching was already over. Personally I don't fault the guy for running to the aid of his teammate. But, you also don't want a brawl to break out because Metellus ran in and started running his mouth.
In this case, if I'm a neutral ref, yeah. I'm probably going to disqualify metellus for unsportsmanlike conduct and green for fighting.
The reason the refs gave for ejecting Metellus was stupid and I'm not sure they got it right because they knew what they were doing. Had they simply said, "he ran over and continuously tried to instigate, which is unsportsmanlike conduct" then they would've been correct. But, it really just looks like they accidentally weren't wrong.

There was some question as to whether or not ejection rules work like targeting rules (so he'd have to sit out the first half).

Not being a dick, but no matter who you are, no matter what you think of yourself, you're an amazing person with unique talents, abilities and thoughts, and just the simple fact that you exist makes this planet a whole lot better.
November 6th, 2017 at 9:10 PM ^
WOW! You were exactly right! That was all 100% bullshit and I AM a dick!
November 6th, 2017 at 10:18 PM ^
None of that is remotely true, why are you being so mean and sarcastic?!?
November 7th, 2017 at 8:08 AM ^
But, he wasn't a dick.
November 6th, 2017 at 10:44 PM ^
You have a tendency to do this a lot, so I am going to point it out in hopes that the behavior is somehow mitigated.
What you've done here is say, for example, something like, "I don't wish to be a prude, but..."
What those people actually mean is, "I am a prude, AND..."
Please quit.

. . . aw, crap.
November 7th, 2017 at 8:14 AM ^
And what if he meant, "What I'm about to say is going to sound dickish but I don't mean it to"? That's what I took from it, especially after reading the content of his post instead of prejudging him.
He didn't need to state it, but,it also didn't mean he was a dick because of some 'linguistic norm'. He wasn't a dick, at all.

Maybe the best introduction would be something like...
"I am about to offer an opinion with which I suspect that many of the typical posters and readers (read: downvoters) may not agree, but please hear me out before downvoting me to Bolivia"

No question he would be able to play this weekend. It's been completely dissected in other threads. Waiting for the office report, not sure about anyone else though...

Big Ten doing the right thing? I should go buy a lottery ticket

like the Big Ten is baiting us, we'll play Metellus, they'll say he was supposed to be suspended, and they'll make us forfeit the game or something

Greene also being able to play next week is an absolute joke.
A guy throws two punches and gets the same punishment as a guy who approaches an opponent. Should Metellus have approached the guy? No. At most it should have been a 15 yard penalty for Metellus.
Here's the full replay of the fight, where you can clearly see 2 punches thrown by Greene and zero by Metellus.
Here's a full replay of the fight. Two observations:

1) Greene threw TWO punches.
2) Metellus threw none, kicked out for approaching the guy pic.twitter.com/cOUdfLjuNA

Jesus. I wouldn't let this guy walk me down to the treating physician's office, much less assist me in any workers' compensation claim.
The only insight he possesses as far as I can see is how to get work he is not talented enough to handle competently. Bravo!

Have they shut up yet, or are they still muttering to themselves about how TWO Michigan players should be ejected because Minnesota was assaulting them? Did Delany issue a memo to Fox to go out of their way to back up the refs' calls? It was like listening to a goddamn propaganda machine.

decision in the context of the out of control behavior of 73 and fact Josh did not throw a punch. Glad B10 did what they could to restore Josh for next game. Wonder if 73 will be out more than 1 game for the 2 punches he threw, and what looked like shoving the ref.

Greene (73) is also eligible to play the entire game next week.

ruling on Saturday night, trying to even up a situation that didn't require it. But here's the thing with this crew, Dan Capron's crew, they're all about being in charge of the stuation. And the alleged justification for giving an ejection foul to Metellus was to maintain control of the game.
An official and a crew maintains control when it takes charge of a situation and correctly enforces the fouls that prompted it, not seeking a level playing field to ensure equanimity.
You know what that plays to: it plays to the idea that last November when this crew botched the Ohio State game, that it needed to show that it was still in authority. No shit. You demonstrate authority by equally enforcing rules and calls. This crew sucked Saturday and the idea that any Michigan player had to sit out Saturday for this crew's bullshit equalizer penalty is small consolation. But hey, we'll tske it.

Nothing says, "We've got this game under control" like enforcing fake rules to make it look like you've got the game under control.

given that in the first place, he did nothing to justify ejection from the Minn game.
November 6th, 2017 at 8:37 PM ^
Exactly. Unless the refs want to (and they should) publish what he said, it's highly unlikely that thousands of players and coaches have not said the same things while not being ejected.
