Michigan coaches love Noon games
Harbaugh on why he likes noon kicks over night games: "It most appeals to my football sensibility."
— Adam Schnepp (@aeschnepp) September 25, 2017
Michael Zordich: It's a beautiful thing. College football should be played at Noon every Saturday.
Don Brown: "I love the Noon games" just now on Inside Michigan Football radio show when asked about night game.

WOW THERE IS NO BO OR FIELDING YOST OR CRISLER QUOTE ABOUT NOON GAMES!!!
We should not play noon games in respect to the above!
October 10th, 2017 at 12:15 PM ^
Michigan never once played a home game at noon under Fielding Yost. Michigan never once played a noon home game under Fritz Crisler. And yes, Michigan never once played a noon home game under Bo Schembechler, despite what people want you to believe.

Noon/1pm whatever. Early afternoon games if you want to be technical.
October 10th, 2017 at 12:32 PM ^
I would be shocked if Fielding Yost or Fritz Crisler ever played a home game that kicked off at 1:00 pm. I know Michigan started moving their November games from 1:30 to 1:00 in the mid '70s, and eventually had entire season slates kicking off at 1:00 by the late '70s.
Also, given the fact that Michigan didn't go on daylight time until the late '60s, those games that kicked off at 2:00 or 2:30 EST were really kicking off at 3:00 or 3:30 EDT.

I didn't realize how awesome it was when you were gone until now.
I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.
October 10th, 2017 at 12:01 PM ^
They love noon games. So do I. Don't like waiting to watch the game, whether it's at 3:30 or at night. But I understand, and I believe the coaches do too, that it doesn't matter how we feel. The games will be placed according to how networks and conferences believe will maximize viewership (and thus ad revenue, sponsors etc) throughout the day.
October 10th, 2017 at 9:53 PM ^
I get wanting to play at noon... the coaches are early risers and the on biorhythms alone, its right to play at noon.... but the top players and recruits wanna play at night. So be it.

See, this is the kind of stuff that gets WD auto-neg status for some.
People will say he gets a raw deal around here every once in a while when WD contributes something good, but people forget when he does crap like this just to poke the bear. We get it WD. You love noon games. Quit attention whoring
October 10th, 2017 at 1:28 PM ^
He can't quit attention whoring. Ever since his days as McFarlin he's always been the same.
October 10th, 2017 at 1:38 PM ^
Attention whoring. Oh, you mean like eating a lemon on YouTube and then posting the video on this site? As if that was such an original idea.

we played our games on Saturday morning and we had to be done before the high school games were played starting at 1 or 2 pm, so we could go to the game and watch them while wearing our team jersey. I remember getting up early and not eating much, maybe tea and toast, butterflies churning
The feeling I got about waking up early to play on those Saturdays is the way I feel about Michigan gamedys now, especially when I lived in Ann Arbor and used to hear the band practicing at Elbel Field.
And for the most part, during my time growing up, the games that we could watch when they were televised, were played at noon. There would be an occasional night game on the schedule, Michigan v. Notre Dame, for example. But the NCAA restricted the number of times teams could be shown on TV and the schools dictated when the games were played.
And at Michigan, the games were always kicked off between noon and 1 pm. Because that's what Bo wanted. And the only times they weren't is when the team played a game in different time zones. But the game times didn't change, just the venue and timeslot based on where they were played.
The Michigan-Ohio State game has only once in my recollection been played outside the noon or 1 pm timeslot in my memory, and that was in 2006 in Columbus because ABC wanted a 3:30 start.
Today, I would agree with the coaches, that every game should start at noon. But, of course, it's not our choice and so another tradition has been scotched by ecnomic choice and financial reality, youthful anticiipation and family interests no longer part of the equation.
October 10th, 2017 at 1:32 PM ^
Don't have to wait the whole day and after the game is over, I can do what I want.
October 10th, 2017 at 1:38 PM ^
I can still do what I want after a Michigan night game. Do you have a curfew?
October 10th, 2017 at 2:31 PM ^
and everyone has their opinion. But WD will not let his die.
October 10th, 2017 at 1:50 PM ^
They all wish their games could be played at the same time (and ideally same place) every week.
Which is fine. But that's not how D-1 football works anymore.

because it is more in tune with the daily routine that you live the rest of your life. You get up, you 'warm up' and then you get to work. Working at night messes with that and it's usually not associated with a healthy lifestyle.
I think various hockey players have talked about the way the afternoons on game nights are mentally quite trying as the pressure builds up and you need to fill the time. It's free time but it's not free because it's overshadowed by the high pressure event that looms.
They also talk about how it's basically impossible to go to bed before 3 am on game nights as the game ends around 10 pm ish and you then have to go through all the post-game routines and then you typically end up going somewhere to unwind with the boys. It's even worse I imagine for football teams as those games tend to not end before 11 ish and it's gotta be not far from 1 am before they're actually outta there. Being in collegiate athletics they probably are also not exactly encouraged to hit the club after games so who knows how they unwind from these games psychologically. I'm just watching and it messes up my weekends because - win or loss - I am pretty hyped in terms of adrenaline after the games for at least a couple hours. For players and coaches, it's like coming out at the other end of a whirlwind.
October 10th, 2017 at 8:49 PM ^
Jesus, just give it a rest already you loser.
October 11th, 2017 at 10:07 AM ^
I've asked WD a similar question: Is this something you would really say to him in person? Or would you be more likely to be a bit more civil and not use those last two words ("you loser")? Saying this stuff on the internet is really cowardly.
October 11th, 2017 at 12:11 AM ^
When I was at Florida State in the early 90s, FSU usually played night games and playing in the daytime was fairly unusual. I remember the players saying the big difference was you could see a lot better in the daytime games. I wonder if that actually has an effect on the game?
October 11th, 2017 at 12:33 AM ^
Never tell anybody your weakness or preferences. Now we'll get 3 night games next year.
October 11th, 2017 at 1:12 AM ^
keep everthing close to the vest (not sweater vest..)
October 11th, 2017 at 9:24 AM ^
Of course they do.
The earlier the game finishes, the earlier they can move on to getting ready for the next game.
With a night game, the whole day is spent dealing with nervous energy. Little to no work gets done.
There is still a lot of film to watch and grade and opponent's film to look at by Sunday afternoon. Playing an away game, at night against Wisconsin and having to catch a flight back before they start preparing for Ohio State? That would be advantageous.
With a noon game, they might even have a chance to have dinner with their families, maybe even catch a look at part of a game or two on TV.
October 11th, 2017 at 12:30 PM ^
They should love and want to coach every game the same no matter what time it is at. Embarrassing statements from them
