understand the hype about Game of Thrones.
However, I fall asleep within five minutes of any Star Wars movie or any discussion of a Star Wars movie. It is more than an issue of just not liking it, I seriously fundamentally do not understand it like it is a foreign language that I haven't learned. I laugh when others cheer. I squint and look around confused when others laugh. There are some characters that I assume have to be like spoofs of other characters in other movies that I find out are really actual characters that matter. I seriously do not get it.
Your words are as clumsy and random as a blaster. I hope you find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over a thousand years in the belly of a Sarlacc. Mesa called Jar-Jar Binks. Mesa your humble servant.
like that stuff. What does that stuff mean? These names you say, are they people, things, chemical agents?
Then I suppose this doesn't get your light saber started, right? The force is weak...in your pants...
A 40 y/o pic.
Most of the female cast of GoT laughs at your post.
Apparently back in the day she was a huge slut. Slept with fans (and pretty much anyone else that asked nicely) all the time.
More famous people should be like that.
I can confirm this. I was 8 when Empire came out, I asked her nicely when I met her a few days later, and she agreed! I felt a great disturbance in my little pants, that day...
she was a part-time school teacher.
have you been?
I was about to post a "Where's the Hatter" thread a month or so ago but I thought it was clear that you were on a blow and hookers bender that would end soon.
Anyway, glad you have made an appearance.
Life just got busy, so I didn't have much time for screwing around. Things seem to be quieting down now though.
/also there may have been some coke.
Just know that you were missed, at least by me. Whenever I make a joke that's really, really off-color, I used to know you'd have my back. Not anymore, traitor...
My other hobby is politics, so I've been indulging that elsewhere lately. But I've grown tired of the circus, so I should be around more often.
Did you know there are Mexicans who can throw a 60-pound bag filled with cocaine over a 50-foot-high wall? I learned that last week...
pad level?
Missed you big fella.
How DARE you let life get in the way of MGoBlog!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!
PRIORITIES man!!!!
can't be like that anymore in the age of social media and cameras in every pocket.
yeah, that works, but in the new movies the women are nothing to look at or enjoy unless you are a sub.
I do not know what that means?

Choosing to proclaim ignorance of something that has soaked into American culture for 40 years is... well, doesn't reflect well. I know someone like you, who almost wears it like a badge of honor that he has never seen anything related to Star Wars (or Seinfield). But that's like saying, "I refuse to eat spaghetti because I understand almost all kids and a huge chunk of Americans like it, thus, I am either full of myself, or I'm just forcing myself to remain clueless." That's what I hear you saying.
Honestly, it's like Americans who continually poo-poo soccer -- but don't watch it. If 5 billion people on the Earth like something, what, those people know better than the rest of them?
So you mocking your ignorance of Star Wars only says, you have chosen not to particiapte in something many (most?) Americans have enjoyed for 40 years. People speak with their feet. Does the fact that so many people love something NOT mean something to you. Apparently not. If you choose not to watch or partake, your choice (your loss). But coming here to say, "I don't get it," really means, "I must have reasons I choose not to get it."
does his disdain for it offend you? Are you a SUPER FAN?
Also...never seen any of the movies, nor do I have any interest. Why do you care if it's my badge or not? I don't care that you clearly enjoy it so much.
It must make guys like you feel so sweet going into threads and acting all high and mighty because you have chosen not to participate in something the people in the threads are discussing.
I'm an atheist. Maybe this weekend i will try to recreate the feeling you get, by walking into a church and criticizing people for liking jesus. Man what a high that would be to non chalantly shit on things that make people feel good.
Then i can be like one of the cool kids who decided to never watch a movie that almost everyone else loves, then criticized the people who did watch it.
You people are worse than hipsters. At least hipsters did it first, then got bored of it when everyone else found out.
You're offended because I publicly don't like your Star Warz? I guess that makes you one of the "cool kids?"
clown.
GoT is well written, acted and filmed. It takes a conderable amount of time to dig into the storylines and some of the subject matter (rape/incest/violence) can be difficult to consume. I'm suprised it's as popular as it is. My family breaks each book and episode apart like this board does with a UFR and I can't wait for 9pm next sunday.
Star Wars is culturally significant and they built a fabulous world but it's been stiffly written and acted since day 1. I've watched a few of the films that were released in my adulthood, but I can't generate the same passion as others appear to do. It's ok to like different things.
take Star Wars way too seriously man.
I have seen all of the Star Wars movies, or more so "I have been in a room or theater when they were on" while I was daydreaming about Game of Thrones or something. I even managed to come out of Rogue One not in a coma, which I thought was a step in the right direction. My son has been obsessed with it for five years and I duly tag along, act interested when the music swells and have light saber toy fights with him when called upon.
I am not saying you shouldn't like them, or that they shouldn't be popular. I am saying that I don't understand the appeal and cannot get interested in them. That's all.
...how dare you! It's an American classic...and you should fuckin LOVE them all...or STFU! How dare you voice your dislike for Star Trek...oh wait, that's the other one. What's the difference?
it is like watching paint peel, unless you watch it on a Latin American channel where the announcers make it exciting (I don't understand a word, but the enthusiam somehow works).
Your arguement is essentially, most people like it so you should too. That's dumb. He's not telling you what to like, but you are. Saying that 5 billion people like soccer is a joke. Yes it's popular around the world, but that doesn't mean shit to me. I prefer to make my own choices. Do you drink a lot of tea too? That's supper popular. Are you a big "Beyond" fan? They've released 25 albums over 20 years and 4 billion people like them. You must have reasons why you choose not to like something so popular. Most of the world hates football too. Why do you choose to like something so disliked by billions of people? I myself, prefer formual 1 racing because that's really popular in a handful of countries I've never visited. In all seriousness, I bet you dislike the NBA when that is usually the 2nd most popular sport in the US. But somehow it's cool to hate NBA and proclaim love of soccer.
In short, don't tell people what to like or disapprove of what they do like. That comes across as extremely ignorant.
Telling or suggesting someone to like something isn't ignorant. I hope you don't go through life entirely believing that because that sucks. Really sucks. For a simple example, when I started out liking Coors Light as my first beer, my best friend told me Bud Light is way better and that I should drink that. It was a great decision that I made that day to switch. The moral of the story is to not deal in absolutes. Only a Sith deals in absolutes. I being from (North) Dakota, will always remember!
Lets not forget Star Wars is 40+ years old. I mean we who watched that show when it came out at the theaters wanted to go back the next day and watch it again. That is, if you were a sci-fi kind of guy. This movie, set the bar and you had never before seen any sci-fi flick nearly as good. Today, there are alot of sci-fi movies that still stink in comparison.
The younger crowd could compare the opening of Star Wars to the opening of Lord of the Rings today. I am not saying Star Wars is better than Lord of the Rings but Star Wars was awesome in it's day like Lord of the Rings is just recently.
As for soccer, I never really gave it much thought until the highlight shows that are available now showing the goals throughout the week. Similar to This Week in Baseball with Mel Allen and how it made baseball even more popular to the younger crowd. Watching the goals get set up with passing the ball from one player to the other some of them are pure magic.
Golf tourny's can only be watched by golfers, if you don't golf, it can easily bore you to sleep. If you do golf, you can sit and watch it for hours.

In one hand you cite American Culture as your reason for defending something, then you turn around and bash American Culture because it refuses to accept Soccer?
America struggles to accept soccer, deal with it, just like Star Wars.
Soccer blows!
If the rest of the world had American Football they would never watch soccer!
I can only stomach it once every 4 years, and only if the USA is playing a meaningful game!
American football. If only we were willing to sell our specially shaped - but super scarce! - balls to the rest of the world, I think you're right, they definitely wouldn't watch soccer anymore!
Weird that we don't let anyone else play or watch American football outside of America. Should lift that international ban and rid the world of soccer forever!
Muhahahahahaha.
everything you said about Star Wars with Game of Thrones and that would be me. I've tried it, don't like it. Main thing is that these episodes don't really seem to stand alone (I say this after having watched a few random episodes) and, at this point, I have absolutely no desire to go back to the beginning to see what it's about. Same reasons I've never watched Lost.

Its telling a story that spans multiple books. This isnt Law and Order where each week starts anew with a completely different scumbag. Its al long drawn out story with multiple character arcs.
that's what i just wrote. I never suggested they should...
think what he is saying is that in Game of Thrones, it is absolutely imperative to watch season one. I don't think everybody who watched season one ended up liking the show, but I can tell you pretty much for certain that for those who love the show became as invested as they are based on events in the first season and how it shaped everything thereafter. You are absolutely correct, sitting down and watching a random episode of season two or three of Game of Thrones would not work.
cartoon witches and warlords, computer nerd guy in the basement, fantasy type of show. Boy was I wrong. The series hooked me from the start. I began watching after 3 seasons were done, so I binge watched it alot. Its one of the best series I have ever seen, for a lot of reasons. One reason is the breathtaking imagery and special effects. In the bonuse features after last night's premiere, they give you a quick taste about the studio side of special effects. I don't care if anyone doesn't understand it or hates the series, I think its excellent.
What do you mean "different episodes" of Law & Order??? I thought they just told the same story over and over again with different actors and actresses playing the cops, perps and victims. That being said, I love me some SVU....
worth watching that doesn't have an interconnected story line? I can only think of South Park. Even quality sitcoms these days build on the last episode.
I mean, there would basically be nothing to watch other than sports if that's your criteria. Nothing wrong with that, mind you. I'm always looking for reasons to watch less television, but man, this is the golden age with so many incredible scripted shows. If you're watching CSI because it "stands alone" I just feel bad for you, especially when on-demand allows you to go back and watch anything from the start!
?? That's perfectly fine! It doesn't have to be for everyone. I had no interest, fell asleep in the first episode probably 6 times, before making through. When I finally got into it, it was good. For me..maybe not for you, but why should I feel obligated like some of the Star wars fans, to necessitate that you "give it a shot" because ultimately what do you miss by not watching? A few niche cultural references?
I feel the same about Godfather. I've tried. It's boring. Like watching golf.
