Regents OK football performance center in Oosterbaan Field House
The $21 million project calls for a 32,000-square-foot performance center to be built within the 78,000 square-foot field house, which will be used for strength and conditioning training for the football program. The project also calls for the addition of a 5,000-square-foot mezzanine level.

That's what the mezzanine is for.

Even so, as part of the workout, elements of the mini-golf course should spill onto the main floor so that players can stay alert and avoid obstacles - moving and stationary - which may randomly appear, much like on the field.

What the Regents don't know is that the "Performance Center" is just one big laser tag arena. Thanks Harbaugh

Jim doesn't mess around in laser tag. 10-year-olds beware.

Any pictures of the proposed upgrades?
February 16th, 2017 at 5:30 PM ^
I'm surprised we haven't seen any renders. They usually have them before a proposal is voted on.
February 16th, 2017 at 6:11 PM ^
The regents have to approve the project before they approve the schematic design, that's always been the case.

I'm gonna go on social media right now so I can read all the well-informed public making comments about how all that money should be put towards education.

OMG HOW CAN THE SKOOL WASTE TAXPAYER MONEY ON THAT SO DUMB
February 16th, 2017 at 4:37 PM ^
not mentioning the mega millions the football program brings in for the other sports programs and university.
February 16th, 2017 at 5:12 PM ^
Or the fact that none of the money for the Athletic Department comes from the University, because they are financially separate.

Did you know Jim Harbaugh is the highest paid state employee!?!? 9 million a year of tax dollars!!
Oh only $500,000 of that comes from the University? Still too much! Think of the children!

None of his salary comes from University funds - not even his base amount. The athletic department pays it.
February 16th, 2017 at 5:18 PM ^
Oh I know. I was making (an admittedly bad) joke. Only $500,000 of his salary comes from a self-sufficient athletic department, and non-sports people still like to get on their high horse about it.

God forbid you use 21 million for a research facility that maybe one day could cure cancer and instead put it into a weight room.......
February 16th, 2017 at 6:14 PM ^
You may be right in theory, but in reality you can't tell people how to spend their money. This weight room is mostly funded by donations.
Should I be pissed at Stephen Ross for throwing $100 million at the business school? No it's his hard earned money and he can do whatever he wants with it.

with people and how they spend their money. But, I can see the big picture and why some people might question spending money in this fashion. I love sports and especially college football.
I even agree we do need a new weight room to keep up with other programs. But, I sometimes wonder where our priorities with the kind of money spent on sports. I also don't make fun of people who would look at this expenditure and say wow that money could be used for a lot better stuff. I see both sides of the equation.
February 16th, 2017 at 6:12 PM ^
Yeah god forbid. Shitty argument is shitty.
February 16th, 2017 at 6:45 PM ^
As we know, in the entire world, there is only $21 million. All the world's money is going to fund this facility, leaving none for anything else, including cancer research. It is literally impossible to pay for this and support any charitable causes.

Do you donate all of your disposal income toward cancer research?
February 17th, 2017 at 11:47 AM ^
^ This is that
February 21st, 2017 at 9:57 AM ^
I actually do donate to cancer research. I have a lot of friends and family who have suffered from it. And if I had a choice to put disposable income towards curing cancer or a weight room, well I would put it towards curing cancer. Life is not all about sports.
